Smoke from below, top needs cleaning
I am in the process of restoring a Hess & Eisenhardt that is in beautiful shape to start with, except...the former owner broke the fan blades which went into the radiator and he blew a headgasket. He is a Jag restorer who got a job in China and sold off his Jags. I got the H&E but, he did not finish hooking everything up when he put a new engine in the H&E. The only electrical he did hook up was to the starter. A friend who was helping me put the Jag on a trailer hooked up the battery so he could use the cigarette lighter outlet to use a 12volt air pump to pump up the tires. After about 15 minutes there was some smoke coming from underneath the Jag. I freaked and disconnected the battery. My brain says it is a dead short but I want feed back. Also, since the Jag was in a barn for the last 2 years, the rag-top could use a cleaning. It is or was new as of 2 years ago and shows no signs of rot or other distressments. How and with what should I clean it? Aside from scratches and rotted tires (they were cheap tires anyway) this car is a gem needing some polish. Lastly, the seats are dried out and one has a few tears in it. Any idea on new covers for it? Thanks!
