Sunroof question
The interior of my car is going to need quite a bit of attention, leather, carpet, headliner - which is fine and all work I can do. Now the floor pan in places where carpet has been removed has only minor rust - at least I am assuming carpet use to be there, i've never seen what a complete interior looks like in this car so I still have some research to do. So either the car was covered or the weatherstripping doesnt leak. At the moment I am leaning towards - car was covered as I am starting to see some moisture inside after rains. Not a lot but enough. So my question is - are these sunroofs prone to leaking and is it even really possible to keep them functional AND make them not leak. I've looked into new weatherstripping and its not expensive so I'm definitely doing it, I would just like to know where my expectations should be as far as being able to keep it leak free.
First off, is your sunroof original or aftermarket?
A company called Tudor Webasto fitted the sunroof within the Jaguar factory.
If it is original "Webasto" will be stamped on the frame.

Interested to see pictures. I have a sliding steel lid by Webasto. It would be really helpful to see yours if it is the same - what rubber profile has been used etc.
if it is a glass pop lid then that is completely different…

Definitely aftermarket. Was looking around at wiring stuff and accidentally popped the switch out of its hole. Pretty safe to assume the factory would have known where that hole was meant to be and not played guess and test with a drill while they figured it out. It'll be fun im sure finding the proper motor to make this work since it doesnt at the moment. Pretty low on my todo list though lol.

The factory sunroofs on the xj40s had drain tubes at all 4 corners. These tend to get clogged up with debris (causing leakage) and need a cleaning at times. Maybe if you can get yours open a bit you can see if that one has such a thing anywhere on it. They also had a manual "emergency" close feature behind the upper finisher. Would an aftermarket one have this? Sorry, my xjs is in poor health and a convertible so not much direct help....
This unit definitely has drain tubes in the corners, though the front ones are very short so I will have to figure out something to fix that. The only controls I've found so far is a single forward/backward switch that was mounted behind the shifter between the window controls.
