Thermal Breakers
All information I found indicates there are two thermal breakers for rear quarters on my 96 XJS convertible. One thermal breaker is for the left and on is for the right. I found a thermal breaker in the relay and fuse compartment in the trunk. There are two wires plugged in to thermal breaker but I don't know if what I found is one thermal breaker or if both thermal breakers are housed in the same unit. I don't have power to the right quarter relays and from what I read there are separate thermal fuses for left and right. Does anyone know if there is a thermal breaker located somewhere other than what I found in the relay compartment or is what I'm looking at considered two thermal breakers? Thanks

GLM,
I'm away from home and haven't got access to my elec diagrams. Have you checked the voltage output from the roof ecu for that window directly at the ecu pinout? Im guessing that there are separate outputs from the ecu for each window?

I've had issues for years with qtr windows. 1 question is "thermal breakers". Are they just re-named fuses, or something else? And, if you want to replace them, is their an aftermarket replacement available?

Thermal breakers are like self resetting circuit breakers. When too much current is drawn and they get hot, they open the circuit. When they cool back down, the close the circuit. Very commonly used on power windows so you don't burn things up by leaving you finger on the switch long after the window is fully up or down. If you blew a fuse each time that happened, you'd change fuses a lot.
Hi Jon, I found the 2nd thermal breaker for the right side quarters and it was blown.. It was inside the window and top relay compartment bolted back to back to the thermal breaker that was on the outside of the compartment. Really tough to see but I found it using a mirror. It was also mostly concealed by the wiring harness running to the relays. I plugged a fuse into the wire ends to test the window and everything works now. I'm in the process of located a replacement thermal fuse. Thanks for your help. GLM
Glad you found the issue. That thermal breaker must have really overheated to fail like that. You might leave the fuse in for a few days to make sure you don't have a bigger issue. Fuses are a lot cheaper than breakers.
