i was going to go upstate (130 miles or so) to go look at an 84 XJS. the price was too good to be true. i scrapped all my junk cars and cashed my paycheck, (just enough to buy it outright), ready to go up on tuesday.
on the way back from work today the transmission in my DD grand prix took a dump on me.

Sorry to hear that! Pontiac may no longer be "Building Excitement", but there is still some excitement to be had, I guess. Maybe somebody pushed the self destruct button on the way out?

its actually my second trans. i put the HD version of GM's FWD 4 speed ( 4t65e w/upgraded diff & internals) in the car thinking "when i go blower, ill be glad i had it"

so the score is
Non HD 4t65e = 216,000 miles.
HD 4t65e = 4,000 miles
watching all your hardwork go to rat **** when its too cold outside to fix it yourself = priceless.

 

I can sure relate to that with my boat and Jag in need.

 

Hang in there man, XJS prices are in the toilet now. You will find the right one at the right price.

the one i was gonna look at was asking $1900. its an 84 5.3
silver mist with the cherry red interior. he assured me there was no rust, but i cal bullshit for that price.

 

84 is about the same as 82, minus the ever so useful "trip computer".
