Hi Gents, I see people have spoke about cleaning their TPI(TPS?)Here is a pic of mine, which threw a code on me. I checked the resistance, and the low end seemed erratic, which I assume caused this issue. How to clean this? doesn't appear to be easily dissassembled if at all. I have an ultrasonic cleaner if that would do the job. Anyone have one to sell if I can't get this working?
From what I can see from the plug, it's a V12.
Make sure all your posts Identify your car and where you are located.
Don't have any answer about your problem since you don't say what's wrong.
What codes, they have numbers for a reason.
Guys, my question is can this be cleaned somehow? I know what the code mean, it means my TPS has an issue, which I've confirmed. I actually found one on ebay, but would be nice to have a backup if I can clean this.
No, it cannot be cleaned or otherwise serviced. The TPS gets iffy because the track for the rheostat wiper gets worn out in use. The ideal solution if OEM ones are NLA, is to fit a Hall effect type, such as made by Variohm, specifying the voltage, sweep etc that you need. You will have to fettle up the fitting hardware yourself.
On the AJ6 and AJ16, that TPS is mounted below the throttle body, and the well known Jaguar Black Goo runs down the shaft and into the TPS. Marvelous engineering that one.
I have cleaned them with Carby Cleane, sprayed through the top gap, and TIME. Some worked, some did not, hence the beer fridge in your shed.
Gregs Hall unit is the way to go, but that Goo is s\till there, and YOU must keep \that throttle body clean, AS IN EVERY oil change, wipe that sucker put, simple.
So I wound up replacing the TPS with a used one....when I went to calibrate it with the PDU, I wasn't expecting how much the throttle cable had stretched and needed to be adjusted to get a full range. After a test drive, there was a noticable improvement in the power. I would have never realized this without the PDU.
