The TPS helps adjust fuel metering as the throttle is opened. Not sure how much influence it has during steady-state conditions.
Yours apparently has a fault that is cocking up fuel metering; disconnecting the wire removes troublesome signal.
I wouldn't want to go indefinitely without TPS input the system probably defaults to a preset and possible less-than-optimal fueling map without it.
Let's hear what others have to say
Cheers

Red wire is the signal back to the ECU, so I agree with Doug sounds like TPS is playing up.
Disconnect the TPS plug switch your multimeter to Ohms and meter green to red then move the throttle capstan slowly the ohms should go between about 5000 and 400 ohms smoothly with no jumping around.
It is important the TPS connector is unplugged and you move the capstan slowly so the DVM can keep up.

I adjusted the tps when I installed. I just started working on the car again. It sat in garage for 2 years went through some of of wiring and soldered some connections that looked bad. The car ran great took it out drove around for about 30 minutes then started to act strange like running rough pulled in garage would not rev unhooked red wire from tps and then was able to rev. just trying to figure out where to look next. replace both amps with bosch parts. both crank sensors replaced couple years ago, tank repaired removed filter in sump and put filter in the line. appreciate any ideas. Thanks
