Default Trans light came on

My 95 XJS Convert died after I came to a sudden stop. It started right back up but the trans light came on and stayed on. It’s also in limp mode. Starts out in 2 nd or 3rd gear and doesn’t shift. It’s done this before but the trans light went out as soon as it started. It has 90,000 miles and has been serviced meticulously.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Gary

The gearbox light ALWAYS comes on when the engine stalls!!!!!!!!!

The DTC will state that the gearbox lost RPM signal or some such wording.

For me, I had a transmission code. Are you able to pull codes with your 95? You have an OBD port.

The code I had showed a bad solenoid B valve. Took it to a tranny shop, they tested the valve and told me it tested well? Recommended I swap out the tranny ECU, which I did. No change.

A jag shop I took it to next recommended to swap the tranny valve body. They said they could try swapping out that solenoid, but couldn't guarantee that was the problem. They gave me a valve body from a 97 XJ6 and all has been good since.

Start by reading and clearing the codes, then see what happens.

Good luck

Just going to give you a bit of hope here. ON the drivers side (US) my harness had worn though after rubbing on the transmission. Actually found the solution here, replaced the two bad wired, been perfect since.
