trimmers
hi all, taking into account I am in the uk. can anyone recommend any upholsterers for my 89 convertible. main areas of concern are the drivers seat and passenger door card is shot though I would obviously need it all to look fresh. I have heard about Aldridge who are within reasonable distance from me but would like to hear of others experiences and cost / service input. many thanks in advance

what colour is your interior ?
as new old stock door cards are still around for about £150 , the seats are a little harder to get, but depending on colour they may still be around
for example
Jaguar XJS LH RHD Door Casing BCC5881 brand new | eBay
and
Jaguar XJS Frt seat Sportspack Squab Assy BCC9310YXE | eBay
though prices seem to be rocketing for these items compared to a few years back when i got mine

Brinny,
The door card is a bit complex as it comprises veneer, vinyl, leather and carpet. IMO, it makes a lot of sense to buy one these new NOS door cards in the right colour vinyl with leather armrest and then refit the correct colour carpet. Your door card (and seat) will not be cream but may be magnolia or doeskin.
As regards the seat, recognise that if you fit a new or recovered drivers seat, it will really show up the difference to your passenger seat.
Where in the UK are you? I know a good trimmer in Kent.
Cheers
Paul

thanks paul, the convertible door card is a different shape. I know Aldridge sell replacements at around £400 the pair so will go that route. they do all repairs and matching up of the seats and are my first port of call but wondered about other options. I live near Sheffield.
i would like to see a pic of your door card to see the differences to a Coupe...

right , after a little research , i think i know what the difference is
as there is no quarter light , the top chrome trim with the felt seal doesn't have the gap for the quarter light trim ,and the rear window frame upright , other than that i think they are identical
so , buy a standard door card in the right colour, and then swap out the felt seal trim parts, which are riveted to the card, easily removed and riveted back
thats what i would do

after even more study , the chrome felt retainer is full length like on the convertible, but the felt insert has the gaps for the window frame uprights, so is even easier to swap out.........
