Yes. me for one. Nothing for it but to take the speedo out and open it up, find the problem and fix it. Which I was not brave enough to do...
This is a pretty common fault on them. For an extra 5 UKP per car, Jaguar could have had Rolls Royce quality instruments, they were offered the deal, but turned it down, this was in the 1970s.

I have an extra speedometer which I took a look at. For the life of me, I can't figure how the reset works. It looks simple enough. Just a stem the pushes on a set of gears and dis-engages them. Something has to tell the trip meter where the beginning is. That might be the trip computer? My trip computer has been removed. Otherwise, I just don't see it. I did find, on-line, a shop that repairs speedometers of older cars. www.bobsspeedometers.com
I may give him a call. I not sure if it is really worth the trouble. I can calculate the miles.

I have never found out how to reset the trip meter.
Yesterday when reading Haynes just for fun, they mentioned a cable for this function near the inertia switch !!
My car is not near me now, so I have to ask:
Is that where to look for the trip meter reset button ? No wonder I haven't found it in the instrument cluster...

Yes, this car has the HE engine. The trip computer was optional in some markets (Germany being one) and on some models. That console would looks as those it has been replaced (and not with the proper wood).
