Default v12 tdc timing marks

For whatever reason this motor I have is missing the timing marks. Shouldn't there be a little plate there right below the pulley that mounts off of two of the front oil pan bolts? Does a repro exist for this plate? I can't for the life of me find one for sale online... Thanks for any help!

SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist

found the part called a "timing indicator" #C37355 , cheap part, but seems to be special order or out of stock on this side of the pond.

I believe 0 is dead center bottom. I'll check. You could fab your own.

Thanks for the offer! How 'bout a pair of intake manifolds? I was able to order it through SNG and the rep said it should only take a week or so to get. It's a cheap part and don't mind paying for a new one.

Yep, I can get those too. Let me know. I'm in central VA if you want to drive up and get them yourself. I can steer you to the junk yard.

0 is, I believe, TDC on A1 piston.

Is your car an 89 or newer with Marelli Ignition?

The Marelli cars have a small indicator where the crank sensor mounts and does not have the scale that the Lucas ignition cars have.

I was speaking of the location of the mark on the timing gauge under the crank. That gauge is oriented with 0 at the dead bottom of the pulley. I think. I haven't had a chance to look yet.

If I'm correct then you could, I don't know, glue a protractor on?

Apologies for my misunderstanding. The actual timing marker scale is on slotted holes and is slightly adjustable. So to get it dead accurate it is best to ensure A1 is at TDC and then align the scale's 0 mark to the crank mark.

That is the best method.

Some years have slotted, adjustable gauges. Mine is the style in the illustration above. These type are not slotted and can only be mounted in one position.

No it's an '85 motor with Lucas ignition.
I need it at tdc to pull the distributor and seal the upper valley cover. Thanks for the help fellas.
