Very noisey gearshift interlock
Hello,
I am a new member with a new old 1995 XJS - 6 convertible, and I am in love. I owned a 1975 XJ6 coupe about 30 years ago and never forgave myself for selling it. But this car has the Jaguar charm also. I'm beginning to sort it out and the first and most annoying thing is that the gearshift interlock PN DBC 11071 emits a loud click every time I apply the brake while the car is in any forward drive gear (automatic), but not in reverse. I pulled the console lid off and watch it move and click loudly every time it is pulled forward. Is this part bad, or should it stay in the open position once the car is out of park?
Thanks,
Richard

My '95 X300 had a "not in park" switch. I suspect your XJS has the same or similar. This switch defeats the interlock solenoid when the car is, you guessed it, not in park. This way you don't have to hear the solenoid constantly.
Others will chime in with more. It's been so long ago that I can't remember the details

On your car it is probably one of the switches (erroneously) shown a "kickdown switch" (#5) in this illustration but I can't swear to it.

(An anomaly of Jaguar parts listings is this switch, C33509, used for decades for different functions on various models, is often incorrectly referred to a a "kickdown" switch. I suspect it was first used by Jaguar for that function and the name stuck no matter how or where it was used. It's a generic micro switch)
