Default Warm starting - PITA

Hey all,

My V12 HE starts awesome when cold, however doesn't really like starting back up when hot.

I seem to have to put a bit of pressure on the throttle and it takes a couple of extra winds on the starter motor to get it running again.

Is this normal for the V12 or is there a sensor playing up?

Any experience out there?

Cheers all.

Craig

Any idea why this happens? Is there anything we can do to improve it?

Cheers

It is fuel vapourisation in the fuel rail. remedies are:
  • switch ignition on wait for 3 secs, repeat four times or so; this refreshes the fuel rail pressure and lowers temp;
  • floor you foot on the accelerator while starting
and best: forget about it!

Since your over that :ditch" and we are neighbours, sort of.

Inside the engine bay, behind the RH headlamp bowl, is the EFI resistor pack. Silver box, about cigarette pack size, with a multi pin plug in its bottom face. Remove that plug, FUN, and the pack, DOUBLE FUN, and CLEAN the terminals, male and female. I use Lemon juice, the real stuff, not the bottled rubbish, and then some WD40 etc to wash it out and refit. This "can" cure that issue.

In summer here, so 40c++ I use Gregs method, and then at the last "prime", I stab the gas pedal ONCE, before going to Start. This fires the 12 Injectors ONCE, and gives the spark something to ignite. DO NOT pump that pedal, or you will flood the thing, and beer o'clock will arrive early.

Failing that, its is NORMAL to a degree.

It may be the anti-back flow check valve (JLM1854). Have you tried turning the key to run,wait a few second, turn off and repeat a few times. This will build pressure in the system and the car will start quickly if that was the problem.
