Default What is the difference between 88 and 90 XJS Dashboard Cover

My 90 XJS Conv. developed a crack running fore and aft about centerline on the dash cover just above the instrument cluster. I had purchased an ABS dash cover for the 87 XJ6 that I had and thought I would get one for the 90 XJS.

The ABS plastic overlays available on line say the cover fits 76 - 88, but will not fit a 90.

Is there something different about the dash on a 90 compared to an 88? The change in the instrument cluster did not come out until the 92 Facelift, so I am wondering why the supplier claims that it won't fit?

I can't get into Jaguar Forums with my laptop. Cloudfare is blocking my internet provider IP address. I am entering this reply on my phone.

Not sure why this is happening. It has happened before, but cleared up overnight. If it keeps up, I will have to get off the site.

If I can get on tomorrow,i will post photos. Please forward to the moderator.

Here are photos of the crack that developed in the dash and an ABS cover similar to the one that I used on the 87 XJ6, which was secured over the existing dash with adhesive. The overlay is claimed to fit XJS from 77 through 88. Hence the question about whether the dash in a 76 - 88 is diferent than the dash in a 90 convertible.

Crack runs from about left corner of demister to about 3/4 of the hump on the instrument cluster.

Until the facelifts, the dashes are identical.

Either:
  • buy a second hand dash piece
  • remove the one you have and recover it carefully yourself using a suitable plastic material or cloth
  • there are places that can do invisible repairs to this sort of plastic, seen them on wheeler dealers; but unless you have one nearby, sending the dash by post or courier is not really an option, owing to its size and fragility.
  • maybe this is worth a try? https://www.ebay.com/itm/39333425459...UAAOSwHhVgpSJW

If you still have a reasonable dash pad fit a dash mat especially if you live in a sunny local.
