What relay in red socket=
Hi,
I´m fairly new into Jaguar (and pretty familiar in other British classics), but this one is giving me headaches.
What relay should be in the red socket?
the one missing in the black is the ignition relay, I found out that I had no power on fuse number 9 and therefore the wipers don't work
I overhauled the wipermoter and I know it is working, but the blowers don't work and the horns are dead as well, and after reading this forum I found out that likely it is the ignition relay
but the I noticed the missing relay in the red socket
Btw it is a 1982 Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 H.E.
I don't have a ownersmanual so I'm hoping someone can help me telling me what relay I´m missing
Thanks

The wire colors at the relay might be more helpful than the socket color.
The socket might be empty intentionally...not unusual on Jags. Not all cars were built with the same equipment/options so it isn't unusual to see empty relay sockets and wiring connectors

The diagram I have on hand shows 4 relays, not 5 so I'm not sure if this is correct, but it lists the relay next to the rear window defroster relay as the bulb check relay.
The horn relay is under the hood on the drivers side fender. If you don't use the horn much, its prone to getting dirty, as in the switch itself in the steering push is the problem.
The ignition load relay does feed the #9 fuse, which should just be fed from the ignition switch. In my (newer) diagram the load relay is the one further to the left in your picture. As doug said, the wiring would probably be more helpful. Again, I may be off here due to difference in years, but lets go with what we have.
For me the load relay has four wires connected to it. Brown, black, and two W/K (white with pink tracer).

These symptoms are a classic sign of a blown fuse or (very likely) poor fuse contact. Except the wipers, all these dead items are on the same fuse (no. 11) the wipers are on 9. Check the fuses, and even if they are good carefully push a thin, about 2mm rubber piece between the copper clip and the plastic divider each end of the fuse holder. You may, repeat may, find this does it.
If the warning lights come on with the ignition switch, it is not the relay.

I have replaced all the fuses, and took a volt meter tot test if there was power on the copper clips/ fuses, but at number 9, 11 and 12 there was no power and all the others do have power. so I took out the load relay (black socket in the picture, I'm waiting for the replacement.)
When I did that I noticed the red socket and missing relay, as you can see it has a black wire and a couple of Blue with a red stripe on it and a brown one, maybe this helps identifying what this socket is for.

Blue/red typically is used in headlight circuits.
Solid brown is always constant 12v, black is ground.
I scanned over my S57 diagrams and couldn't find anything...but the S57 doesn't cover every possible build configuration and I'm on my first cuppa coffee.

I was wondering about fog lamps but the wire colors didn't jibe with the diagrams....at least not the ones I have. But, lighting circuits are something that vary quite a bit from market-to-market.
