Default What is this valve/sensor?

All,

I’m assuming it has to do with the AIR system and found a reference to it being just the AIR valve. Anyway the yellow hat looking sensor on the left side of the valve (passenger side) is broken. Have no reference for it, dealer couldn’t even find it so thought I’d ask what you gurus could tell me. It’s located directly under the throttle pedestal at the back of the V and has two small diameter hard metal tubes running to the back of each head.

Cheers!

And if they can't recognise that really common part on a Jaguar engine, I'd suggest it might be time to find a new Dealer also!

Cheers

Paul

Unfortunately, I doubt there is anyone working at a US Jaguar dealer who has ever even seen the V12 engine, let alone could identify parts on it.

Yeah…he looked at me like I was nuts when I told him what the car was. Pretty typical nowadays. I have a 97 Lexus that the dealers won’t even service but I can get parts for it at least.

Paul,

I didn't have anything to actually show them. We were trying to find the part in the system. I can't believe Jag doesn't have a system where you simply pull up a big diagram of the motor and then zoom in to whatever you're looking for and finally find it. The system he was using makes it so you have to identify what subsystem the part is in and then drill down from there. Since I didn't know it was part of the oil pressure reading system and had no pic or part to show him we got stumped pretty quickly...

Hi Jag Nigel,

As you may know, the Jaguar Parts website that we all use, is based on the pages of the orginal Jaguar Parts Manual. Maybe not ideal, but it works really well for most of us. As you were able to describe its location (and show him the photo?) it's fairly clear that it's mounted on the Cylinder Block Top Cover of the Engine, so he could go straight there. See attached link:

Genuine Cylinder Block Top Cover-5.3 Litre (5.3 Litre) For Jaguar Xjs Sports Coupe/convertible 1975 - 1996 Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

Our Parts Depts in our Main Dealers here in the UK would tell you immediately what it was. But perhaps, as others have mentioned, US Dealers just don't have the knowledge of any models other than the current ones? That's a real shame as it probably pushes owners away from the Jaguar Dealers and they lose that relationship. Ah well.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thank you for that! Unfortunately I hadn’t had a lot of time to get into the workings of the system. He actually had me come behind the counter and we tried to figure it out. Starting in this page

I/we had no idea that looking into the engine category would produce the desired results. Honestly though, for every other car I’ve owned the dealer could simply go to the area on a general overview, and keep drilling down into the area in question until the desired part was found…this has been American, Japanese, German…the lot. But yes I’m sure the UK Jag dealers are much better at these things than the folks on this side of the pond😁

Thank you again!
