Those are the wheels which, in standard format, were the default wheel for the 4 litre cars from VIM 221855. That particular wheel has been refurb'd and powder coated / painted. An original one should be diamond-cut on the face.
Jaguar usually refer to them as the "11-Spoke Alloy". Some people call them "Aerosport" wheels. I THINK that US customers MAY have had an option for them to be chromed. I've never seen a chromed one in the UK. The other option wheel on the late XJSs was a chromed version of the 5-spoke.
So how many different wheels are there for these? Am i right in thinking four? The old school starfish wheels, the "snowflake" design as i've seen it called which were OEM's for the late 80's cars i think, the wire wheels, and these celebrations? Am I missing something?
Hello Scott,
As far as I know it is not so easy to replace the lug bolts if you want to compensate for the 33 mm offset of the alloy rims used on the sedans of that aera.
Additionally, most of those XJ rims won't work on the XJS because the front wheel bearing caps are much larger on the XJS, compared to the sedans.
In order to fit those XJ rims at the front you need a 10 mm spacer, at least. I tried several of those XJ rims, that's why I know the conflict areas.
I originally had the 11 spoke "Celebration" wheels on my car (MY 1996).
Finally, I decided to install an aftermarket solution, manufactured here in Germany back in the 90s.
Most of the variants of 16" wheels had very short periods of standard fitment as Jaguar changed the spec of the XJS quite frequently from 1991 - 1996. So most were fitted for only 12-15 months before being changed.
My 1994 AJ16 4 litre Convertible has the 5-spoke no-groove diamond-cut wheel that was only fitted for 11 months from May 1994 - April 1995.
Fickle chaps eh? Once i do get my cat I'll be hoping she comes with nice ones. If not I guess I'll start shopping. Maybe hit up the chap with 9 wheels assuming he doesnt build a V12 Argo 8x8 with a spare lol.
