Default XJS ABS Issues

Hi All, I have an interesting one... This is on my 1989 XJS convertible US spec LHD, 38,000 original miles. So, my rear brakes needed new calipers, rotors, and a couple of lines replaced. That is done. However, when I bought the car a few months ago, I noted that someone had put electrical tape over the ABS light on the dash. It is always on. I assumed that it might have been related to the rear brake issue. It is still on. I asked the mechanic to take a look and he tells me that he attempted to find the PW4 connector for the ABS module. Wiring in the rear has been modified and the connector is no longer present. Why would someone remove that connector? I am assuming I can find a replacement? The car was always professionally maintained (it was owned for many years by a doctor's wife).

I did all my ABS related troubleshooting with just a volt meter...The most commong issue with these cars seems to be the rubber deteriorating on the ABS speed sensor cables and they fail. They're easy to check with the ohm function of the meter...I'd have to check the manual, but I believe its in the 1.2k range for normal...start with that...you can measure this right at the ABS module and do all four in one shot. That said you have to watch for the correct pins as its easy to get turned around with the cable upside down when testing. There is a whole procedure in the manual to do all the tests as well, most with a voltmeter.
