This may be a stupid/naive question but I can't find confirmation (or otherwise) if the USA version of the 1996 Jaguar XJS Convertible ever came with the V12 engine?

Hagerty/NADA valuation tools etc. do not list v12.

It was regularly available in 1994, special order only in 1995, not available in 1996. Available in the rest of the world for 1996, but by special order.

 

Thank you......a guy is claiming he has a one owner, 53K miles, 1996 with a V12.....if he actually does have one it might be worth quite a bit if it was imported here as a special order!

 

Or it's a 95 that sat on a dealers lot and wasn't delivered until 96?

 

I'm going to ask him for the VIN#, that should help figure it out. I'll report back. He's asking $25K for it which is a bit steep IMHO.

I appreciate that the US has a different meaning for a "96" car meaning a 96 model year car. For the rest of us, a 96 car means one built in 96. There were only 3 V12 XJS built in 1996. The last XJS built was done on the last day of production, a Coupe, and was delivered straight to the Jaguar Heritage collection, along with the 2nd last car made, a 4.0 litre convertible, which also went to the collection. There were 2 V12 convertibles made earlier in the year, a RHD one and a LHD one. My friend has the RHD one. If the one being advertised is the LHD one and perhaps has recently been exported to the US, then it wouldn't be just a 25k car. I suspect though that it's a 95-made car, (or even a 94-made car).

Sorry for the delay in reporting back but after repeated attempts to make contact with the seller again he has not responded. I can only assume that he has either sold the car or I asked too many questions!!

 

Or it was a scammer and the car never existed.

 

My old records also show just 2 '96 XJS V12 verts

The last XJS built was that V12 Coupe with VIN 226645 for reference
