Default XJS thinking about a 4 cylinder turbo lump

GM has an engine , 4 cylinder turbo , 350 lbs lighter than V12, over the front wheels, and the new Ford/GM 10speed trans,, YEAAHH yes that would make a nice combo!
pic of how the engine and drive train is made!
check out the boost #s Holy mackerl bat man,, 1400HP !

it would be different! ECOTEC by the General!
ron

just a measly 2.2 L four banger
dyno sheets, from 12 yrs ago.

There were times when F1 had 1500cc engines outputting 1500+ BHP. This was in qualification trim and the lifetime of engine was counted in minutes. The fuel was proprietary and the recipe for it was super secret. Cost of one liter - $1,200.

.

maybe so, but these engines can bought from GM over the counter at very low prices(relative to what), nobody else in the world can make this much power for the money!
LIKE the new Corvette for $60K, who else can match that much car for the money?

that F1 was a BMW unit ,by the way! i remember that era.

You know there is a shop in Portland that does turbo charged and modded 6cly Jag engines? They have a sedan drifting around corners at something like 400hp/430lbft torque all from a turbo and an ecu, obviously a few other fabricated bits but nothing extreme like a total engine swap.

NICE car ,, lot of work and lot of money, LOVE it!!
not for a novice guy tho!
some thought about LIGHT weight aluminm 4 cylinder would take around 400 lbs out of an XJS, that alone would be a serious performance increase.

The dyno chart starts at 5000rpm - that engine is not going to be very street friendly!

its all about the gearing, read up on the Ford/GM 10 speed transmission , super low 1st gears and double overdrives!
like i said would make a nice combination! and the light weight would make things more exciting!

but still be faster than your cars! LOL.

pix of the engine in an old GM Cobalt , read specs!

after the car won its class , they drove it to MacDonalds for burgers!

most people do not realize that well tuned Turbocharged engines can be very smooth to drive!
no doubt would be torqueless down low , but be a handfull when boost hits!
and without a doubt most people can not handle 1000HP cars!

Meh. Cheap engines for sure, and soulless. To each their own. Youre better off with a 2jz in there with twin turbos. That has the potential to be desirable.
