Default XJS Tonneau Cover

Hi All,
Wanted to know from XJS Convertible owners about the Various Tonneau Covers, based on the Model Year.
Will a 1991MY Tonneau cover fit a 1995/1996 MY?
What are the differences with the various iterations of Tonneau covers
My 95 does not have a Tonneau cover, and I have the opportunity to buy a 1991MY cover, just want to know if it will fit?
Cheers

Ilfordboy,

If you mean the hood cover, then there is a difference between the ones fitted to 2-seater cars compared to the ones fitted to the 2+2 cars.

Also, the early ones are canvas, whereas the ones fitted to late 2+2 cars are made of vinyl or leather.

Hope that helps

Paul

Default XJS Tonneau Cover

Hello, I have a question also about the cover. 1995 XJS 2+2, mine is leather or final and it doesn’t quite fit. Any idea how to stretch or put some life back into it. It’s been folded up in the bag for some time.
Thanks

Thanks Paul.... I pulled the trigger and bought the one that was on sale, as it was the correct color, and the price was very reasonable... once I receive it later this week, I will know if this was a good call or not.

I will still never understand why jaguar waited sooooo long to do away with this method of stowage. I never use my cover because I dont like leaving the top down when i stop somewhere. Oh well

I always have the hood cover on. I try and drive with the top down whenever possible. The design of the hood when folded means that driving with it uncovered (particularly at high speeds) means that air debris is forced between the folds of the hood. All that airborne dust gets into the folds and eventually causes deterioration of the headliner and hood fabric. So I'd recommend to always use the hood cover.

I can remove the hood cover in 15 seconds if I have to raise the hood in heavy rain, so it's hardly a burden. And the car looks much better with it in place. Just remember to fold the hood locking pins forward before fitting the cover.

Cheers

Paul

I have always used the cover when motoring with the top down after 15+ yrs ownership. What I found is the canvas style covers shrink with age, so fitment can be frustrating. I bit the bullet just last week and had an upholstery shop remake the top by replacing the lower portion with new canvas (good match). Now, all the loops and snap buttons attach properly and the cover works like it should. 2 hrs labor, $225 done and worth it!

I've not aware that anyone made a tonneau cover for the XJS, not even Jaguar.

If you mean the hood cover, I've also never seen a rigid one on an XJS. Jaguar never made one and I've never seen an aftermarket one either.

Cheers

Arden in Germany made a hardtop. I think that you had to remove the soft top to fit it.
Arden hardtop for XJS 4.0l, 5.3l and 6.0l

THX for Arden reference. They make an actual hard roof (don't understand the purpose actually). I was hoping to find a hard tonneau cover to replace the soft on when top is down. Several Euro/Asian OEMs offer, but none for Jag. Hoping to find custom one that covers the retracted top and qtr window sides. Am I whistling in the dark?

Dave,

As mentioned, I've not seen one in 20 years. Because you'd have nowhere to stow it on the car, I suspect it would have limited value rather than the soft hood cover.

Cheers
