Default XJS V12 Exhaust Shield Fell Down On Top Of The Exhaust

Hi Guys

Got Probs!

The Exhaust Shield above the Exhaust has fallen down on top of the Exhaust

Any Ideas what I should do and is this a big problem that needs fixing before I drive her, or should I just leave it as it is?

It looks like its made of Tin or something like that

Alex

Is it the large vaguely triangular one above the propshaft behind the gearbox? If so, it is fixed to the body by self tappers that themselves are through thin strips of the heat shield metal that stick out from the main shield body That are screwed into the floor of the car. Either the self tappers have given up, or more likely, the tabs have broken off.
Sadly, you need to undo the propshaft BRAIN FADE, meant to undo the EXHAUST again to get the sheild out and examine it and fix new tabs to it (eg thin steel pop riveted to the shield).

Hi Greg

Its over the Top of the Rear Silencers just in front of the Cage and made of Tin, is that the one you mean?

Just done a quick edit as I've found a Photo that shows it just to the right of the Silencer

Are you using a drill to twine your safety wire?

Don't really want to put more than 10 or so twists per 25mm in the wire - depends on the gauge of the wire - 6 to 12 twists max, first twist should be within 5mm of the fastener on the side best desposed to prevent slackening - generally the first loop and twist is done by hand to snug things. There's a YouTuber called AgentJZ that works on jet engines that did a whole vid on wire locking.

I wouldn't lose any sleep - I'm pretty sure you don't plan to leave the ground

Where did you hear a rumour about summer - I'm not sure but I think it is still winter .... too wet, too cold ... I'll be happy just to get the wheels back on this year and the engine re-assembled.

OB, This one?

Also I had brain fade, as it is the exhaust, not the propshaft you need to remove to get it out. And it is screwed in place, no tabs (that is on the smaller ones each side in front of it) so my lasy post could not have been more wrong! Sorry.

Hi Greg

This Shield is made of Stainless Steel, so pretty much impossible to drill and so I'll have to Jack her up to take a closer look
