Yet Another Steering Rack Question

Yet Another Steering Rack Question
I'm getting ready to replace the rack bushings on my 96 XJS Conv.
I've looked at all the info I could find and none seem to mention the cross brace fitted to the later MY convertibles.
It looks like I'd have to drop the rack to get the rack low enough to push out the bushings. True? Or am I missing something?

The cross brace is easily removed, just 4 bolts.
You will have to lower the rack a bit to give room to access the mounts, you do not have to remove it. You will also need to fashion some kind of tool to help remove and replace the bushings. Many people use a threaded rod and some sockets. You can also buy or even rent a tool from John's Cars to make life easier.
You might also want to disconnect some of the power steering hoses, especially any metal ones that could get damaged.
It is a straightforward job, taking your time it will take 3-4 hours or so. It will be MUCH easier if you can get the car up on a lift instead of just on some jackstands.
Cheers,
Allan

Thanks for the quick reply!
I have the threaded rod/socket set and ready to go.
I'm going to try it on jackstands today.
If it's to much of a PITA I'll see if I can get access to a lift.
BTW - I'll be in Hickory on Oct. 18 or 19. Would you be interested in showing off your Jag to a new Jag owner?
