Had warning on display that one of my brake lights was out. Went to local Jaguar dealer to have it replaced. One hour and $90 dollars later all "fixed". Charged over $18 just for the bulb! Now that's service.

 

Good lord! I hope you got their number... no massage or dinner with that? My magic bulb cost $4 for two from Autozone, I'll sell you my other one for 15! Man I feel for you...

 

Owners handbook made it look too difficult to do it myself or to trust local garage

 

I feel your pain, dealer wanted to charge me $75 to change the little Amber peanut bulb in the headlight :/

 

Local porsche dealer tried to charge $75 to plug in a new relay. Less than a minute job done in their parking lot!

 

Interesting as I just did the math and my hourly rate before I retired 9 years ago was $87.5 . Needless to say after retiring my hourly rate is now much more expensive because I have less hours left.

 

It's a Jaguar and the learning curve on these cars is substantial.

Next time, DIY. It's easy.

 

Or ask us, that's why we are here and much less expensive. But to the dealer's defense, hourly is hourly whether replacing a transmission or a light bulb....

 

Been wanting to say that for a long time.

People ought to consider what their firm charges for their
services. Different for retired folks obviously, but as a
general rule it is worthy of consideration.

The dealer and the mechanic are just trying to get
enough to pay the owner, or someone like the owner
the next time they need their services.

I will bet most owners of Jaguars are not shy about
charging premium rates either.

Many of us are here to be helpful when we can.

There's no bulb on my '07 XK that I can't replace in 10 minutes, and with minimal or no tools. ...OK, the fog lights require a jack, so there is one.
