'09 XKR iPod Center Console Control AND Power
So, I've had my '09 XKR Portfolio for about two weeks now an absolutely love it! Unfortunately, I just had back surgery and I can drive it for two whole week! Travesty!
One Issue: when I plug my phone or iPod into the "iPod" connector in the center console, I can control it via the touchscreen and steering buttons, but it doesn't charge.
Any idea where I can get an adapter that will charge AND play my iPod/iPhone? Perhaps one that uses both the "iPod" and "USB" plugs in my center console?

There are 2 ways you can get your iPod to charge; the expensive way or the inexpensive way. The expensive way is to buy a second-generation iPod cable from your Jaguar dealer for around $100. The inexpensive way, which is what I did for $20, is to buy a Schosche Passport adadpter from Amazon.com. I leave that adapter plugged into my iPod in the armrest all the time and it works great!

P.S. This forum is a great resource. You can find the answers to almost all of your questions by using the Advanced Search function, typing in a few key words, and selecting the current model XK/XKR forum.

Another great source for music is the USB. I also have a 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible. I have downloaded approximately 800 songs on a USB thumb drive and it works great.

The Sandisk 32GB will hold several thousand songs.
The Navigation/Audio/Vehicle panel also puts all the music in order and it is easy to browse the folders from the USB.
A 32GB Micro thumb drive costs about $22.00 and a 16GB Micro thumb drive costs about $12.00. Both so low priced and easy to download on the thumb drive.
With the USB device, I have eliminated the Satellite Radio service as I have my own music that I like.
Give this method a try. The Bowers & Wilkins stereo system is AWESOME in my humble opinion.

Also, I've noticed that I get pretty mediocre regular radio reception. Crackles a lot of time - even on stations that I know are only a few blocks away and ones that no one else's cars have issues with.
Any ideas?

If you have a warranty, I'd make sure it was covered first and then take it to a Jaguar dealer to diagnose and fix it. Otherwise, finding a loose connection or bad ground can be time-consuming, unless others on this forum have had a similar problem and can point you in the right direction. Good luck!

I use the Scosche passport adapter. It works great, even at the end of my 3 foot extention. Quick note: if you get an extention cable make sure it is rated for A-V, not just data and charging. Some won't play the music.
*edit: but that has nothing to do with the Scosche.

The other thing you can do for not too much money is to buy a connector cord off of either Ebay or Amazon from a Hong Kong supplier for about $30. That's what I did for my 12 vert. FYI the cord for the Land Rover and the Jaguar is exactly the same. Welcome aboard and good luck with your new ride.
I downloaded the music from CD discs to my computer then from the computer to the Sandisk Cruzer Micro thumb drive. It was so easy. I have a big library of music on my desktop so it was quite easy to transfer to the micro USB thumbdrive.
Don't know what the problem might be on radio reception. Where I live we don't have trees or large buildings for obstruction. I have no problems getting signals from stations that are 50 to 60 miles away. Down here in Southern New Mexico our views are unobstructed and can see mountain ranges that are 50 to 60 miles away with no problems. It's all open land.
Richzak, Don't you get tired of navigating through your music files with the cumbersome infotainment interface? Or do you just let it shuffle and play without worrying about selecting the album/song?
The advantage to using the iphone (or probably other non-apple devices) that I've found is the ability to bypass the stock system and use the device to select the tunes.

I really don't see this as a problem. If I want a different artist/album, I just press on the folders and it guides me back to the list.
I guess I am pleased because it works for me. Since I have the USB device docked, I feel like I don't need satellite radio. I like the idea on putting on an album of my choosing and just driving away.
The sound of the Bowers & Wilkins is awesome to my ears.
