I have just imported an XK cab from the US to Norway. On arrival the battery was flat and needed charging.
The roof doesn't respond when pushing the button, no message or response, even if I remove the luggage cover. Is it a manual reset that I need to do ? Or could it be something else. I don't know what to expect, not trying it myself before. Ps It worked before leaving the US.
thanks
I don't have a convertible so this is just a guess. Many, many problems can be traced to a battery that is not fully charged. Make sure your battery is fully charged and try again. If that does not work, try a hard reset. Search the forum for how to do that. You may lose any special settings that you chosen, but since the car is new (to you) that may not mean much.
You MUST reset both front windows before you can use the top!
The reset procedure is in the manual. Also as follows....
With the window down, hold the UP switch until the window is fully up but CONTINUE to hold the switch for three seconds past UP. Release and hold UP for another three seconds.
Hold the DOWN switch until the window is fully down but CONTINUE to hold the switch for another three seconds past DOWN. Release and hold DOWN for another three seconds.
Repeat as necessary until both windows operate as Auto Up and Auto Down with a single short pull of the window switches.
Your top should then work normally, as long as the luggage divider is installed correctly, as has been previously discussed.
If your car did not come with an owner's manual you should be able to find a link to the manual in the stickies at the top of the first page of this forum. If that doesn't work there are two other options. they are to enter into the search threads area in the upper right corner of this page convertible top does not work. If you don't find the answer there go to TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us. It is a website that belongs to Steve Klonsky the convertible top guru for our X150s. He has developed a remote one touch operator for the top which has been bought and installed by many members of the forum, including me. I highly recommend both him and his top controller. In addition he is a very nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. If anybody can help solve your problem he is the man.
I'm a little confused by this:
"...no message or response, even if I remove the luggage cover."
You ABSOLUTELY should get a warning if you try to lower the top and the luggage cover is removed.
(It should appear in that area directly above the steering wheel between the speedo and the tachometer.)
Thanks for the advise. I have reset the windows, the automatically go up and down. Still no respons from button for "top down" or message in the message display. Anyone have any other ideas?
Your battery became fully discharged in transit on the ship from the USA to Norway, which caused the top module to lose its memory. Read this entire thread and, before you do anything, make sure that your battery is fully charged. Pay attention to the advice of WhiteXKR - he's Steve, the Jag Wrangler, the inventor of the remote control soft top module. It's what the factory forgot. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-re-set-55684/
After you've read everything, try removing fuse #8 between the rear seats for a couple of minutes and then reinserting it. That should reset the top control module. See Steve's Post #35 - and hope it works. Let us know what happens.
Good Luck!
Stuart
P.S. Since you're a new member, you should know that you can thank another Forum member for a useful post by pressing the
button on the bottom right corner.
Is it possible that a previous owner installed Jag Wrangler's remote top controller? I doubt that the controller itself would be the problem but maybe something came loose during shipment. I have no idea if that would cause the "no message" but thought it worth checking.
Second suggestion. Do the window reset again. I seem to remember that sometimes it doesn't take.
Thanks to all for tips and help.
Stuart's tip on removing fuse #8 solved my problem.
I'm glad you got lucky and an easy fix worked. You dodged a bullet.
Keep an eye on your battery, since it's longevity was compromised because it completely discharged while in transit.
You're in Norway, so I'm sure you know what cold weather does to a battery. So, if you experience any other electrical glitches, it's probably due to a weak battery.
What does the factory do to prevent a battery from discharging when they ship a new car to the USA or other distant destination? That's the function of the Transit Relay. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ry-bay-242230/
My point in citing the Workshop Manual is that the engineers knew that the battery would go flat while the car was in transit from the factory to other continents. To prevent the battery from discharging, they installed the Transit Relay to disconnect the battery from the vehicle ground. They assumed that the car wouldn't be reshipped, so they instructed the dealer to remove it and throw it away.
If the Workshop Manual had instructed dealers to keep that relay, tag it with instructions, put it in a bag, and secure it in the trunk (boot), alongside a warning sticker, the OP's problem could have been avoided.
