Default 2007 Jaguar XK 4.2.

Hi My Jag has two single exhaust off the back box, one either side. Looking for the cheapest way to improve the sound, the car is to quiet when you put your foot down !. Can you remove the back box and put the pipes straight through ? or replace the back box? Any ideas out there

You can remove the centre pipe resonator and replace it with an 'X' pipe similar to the supercharged cars, or try some of the aftermarket exhaust systems.

XK 4.2 NA Stage 1 exhaust ? Spires

If you just remove the rear silencer, the car will be too loud and may be an MoT failure point.

I'm not sure what UK regulations govern mufflers. However, since most aftermarket mufflers that are swap in for the XK are in the UK they probably meet those regulations.

I'll throw in one muffler maker not yet mentioned. The twin pipe XKR under bumper body panel needed for twin pipes is not that expensive.

X in the mid pipe will quiet the tone. 200 cell per inch sport cats will make it louder.

Trust me, straight pipes do not sound good. Just pop your rear box off and take it for a spin if you don't believe me.
