Well crap. After watching videos on tstats in boiling water I'm starting to think I didn't put my tstat in correctly. I bought it from the dealership right around the corner from me. It's in pieces just like the one that I took out. Every tstat I've ever dealt with was in one piece. I just thought this one was different and really didn't think about it like an idiot. NOw I realize it has no way to open and close.

I got lucky. Didn't put the tstat in correctly the first time. Took it off and did it correctly, no more fan when I turn the car off. Now I just have to watch for leaking coolant to see if I do have a small crack in the neck of the radiator.

When I had my 98 XK8, I had so many problems with the car, including coolant leak, seatback breaking off, and the same "fan running after engine turned off" problem that I never could find the cause. Was quite relieved when I finally sold it. Beautiful car, but not worth the trouble. Now it seems many Jaguar gremlins are a recurring theme in the new models as well. For shame!

Wow Wolfy,

So you had a different car, an assortment of issues with that different car, the OP resolved his issue by fixing his repair... not sure how you're post is of much value here to anyone in this forum

I am just seeing a pattern with these Jaguar reliability issues. Some things will never change.
Peace out.

My 2010 XKR...... I had to fix the floppy loose glove box door. Other than that, zero problems for 61,000 miles. HORRIBLE! Things will never change!

robbing ... when you installed your thermostat 'incorrectly' the first time ... but re-installed it 'correctly' the second time ... can you explain in a little more detail what was 'incorrect' the first time and 'correct' the second time? Thanks.

It's an 07, not exactly brand new. Not sure that would be a reliability issue. This is my 2nd Jag, the other we had for over 100k miles and hardly had any issues at all with it. They're cars, all cars have things that wear out on them.

Snide, I'm too embarrassed to say how I installed it. It was turned the wrong way. It's probably the dumbest thing I've ever done while working on a car but I'll have to fess up. When I disconnected the housing with the old one in it the old one just flew out so I didn't know how it went in. Instead of looking it up I just went with it. I literally had it going the wrong direction.

Glad you figured it out before moving on to replace the water pump (a bit harder to install backward though).
Why did you suspect you may have installed it backward?

You told me in an earlier post to put the old one in boiling water to test it. I decided to do a search on videos so I could see exactly what happens. A couple of picks of Tstats popped up when I searched and it made me realize mine was wrong. I've only done one other tstat before and it was on my Rover. That one was one piece so it was easy to tell how it went together.

I'm just hoping the radiator doesn't have a crack in it because I don't feel like taking all of that out. Saying that, if it doesn't then I'm going to be pissed at the Euro house I took it to.
