Can you cut a hole in the plate to have access to the key hole?

Default Second backup light possible?

So I've read thru a couple of these posts but can't tell if a backup light can be added as a replacement of the rear fog light? Seems really dark backing up and I'll take as much light as I can get. TIA

The easiest way to get two backup lights is to replace the fog light assembly in the left rear trunk lid with a corresponding left rear tail light assembly from a UK 4.2L XK model that has a backup light.

The fog light is always closest to the center line of the roadway. For North American market models, that's on the left rear since we drive on the right side of the road. UK market models are the opposite, since they drive on the left side of the road.

You can try finding a used left rear inner tail light from a UK (right hand drive) 4.2L on ebay.co.uk. Or you can contact Forum sponsor SNG Barratt, since they operate on both sides of the pond.

Unless you modify the wiring harness, you'll have to push the fog light switch to turn the new backup light on and off.

Or you can do it the hard way by replacing all your taillights with the newer LED design from the 5.0L models, since 2010 is when Jaguar began using two backup lights. Many Forum members have done so, and there are several threads on how to do it.

I wish I knew this last summer when I was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and asked to turn on all my lights, including my reverse lights.
I received a ticket for the “burnt out” light!
Damn!

You should ask for a refund!

Default 2007-2009 XK Left Backup “Light” Not Working

For those of you who own a 2007 to 2009 XK and have found that the left-side, when you are standing behind the car, back up light is not working, here is some information you may find interesting. There is no bulb or fuse, so don’t waste your time chasing that around. The Left Lamp is not a Backup Lamp, but a RED Fog Lamp. On the 2007-09 XK, there are two switches on the lower left portion of the dash above your left knee, that turn the Fog Lamps on, one on top for the front and one on the bottom for the rear Fog Lamp. It is the Entrant’s job to know how to operate their car so be sure to tell Judges that only the right is a Backup Lamp, the left is the Fog Lamp when Operational Verification is being done at a concours too.

PS, the 2010 tail / reverse lamps are different and I don't know any thing about them.
Elsewhere I did a post about the Third Stop Light on the XKR-S in the wing.
There is nothing wrong with that stop lamp, there is a circuit thing under the rear panel that burns out.
It can be completely removed and then the two plugs hook up and the third lamp works.
The Thingie is only to eliminate static on the AM radio.
