Default 2007 XK wheel swap / upgrade question?

I have a 2007 xk dhc. I currently have the fairly common 19" wheels mounted on her.

my question is: what does it take to mount the 20" Takoba style wheels on the standard xk?

Are the direct bolt ons?

if not, what specifically is needed to provide required room for what I assume could very well be different offsets?

thank you.

best,

pcb

as a Porsche and Ferrari owner I am accustomed to 5 spokes and as a new jag owner...I like the idea of less wheel to wipe brake dust from

Takoba wheels will be in the fitment for the 5.0 cars. These have a different rear offset due to the different rear differential in the 5.0s. You can fit them but you need spacers, at least for the rear, not certain about the fronts.

The 4.2 XKR Portfolio had Cremona wheels which are similar, 5-spoke design. I have these fitted to my car, they are a straight swap for the 4.2 XK and XKR.

Regarding brake dust, try EBC RedStuff pads; these perform well and generate significantly less dust than the standard pads, and the dust they do generate seems easier to clean off.

thank you for the response. so the takoba wheel is offset a bit differently and requires spacers for the rear. do we know what size spacer is needed? it would be great to nail that down. I really would like to do the wheel conversion.

regarding your car...the wheels look superb!!!

Thanks A set of those would just fit straight onto your car, ebay.com showed a few there. If you want the Takobas then you'd need minimum 20mm spacers. Rear Takoba offset is ET46 and offset for standard 20" wheels for a 4.2 XK/XKR (e.g. Cremonas or Sentas) is ET26, so 20mm difference.

another question: does a swap involve/require wheel studs to be changed for longer bits or is that handled with the spacers? where does one source the spacers? is there a preferred provider for members of this site?

Thank you for the thorough responses!

best,

Peter

Peter,
I really hate to rain on your parade; do you really want to have only 5 spokes?
If you ever drive on rough roads and/or potholes ; it is better to have more spokes to clean than fight bent rims, really.
My XK has 10 and my wife's XK8 7; just a thought from a retired engineer.

Good Luck, Adrian

I can't say for certain that more spokes help, but I hit 2 pot holes in one evening with a Mille Miglia wheel on my other car, that had 9 double spokes (18 spokes total), and it got 2 large 'flat' spots on the inside of the wheel (the side opposite the spokes), and no damage on the spoke side. A wheel repair place was able to 'round out' the wheel again. So maybe the abundance of spokes saved the wheel from being totally 'flattened'.

I have the original 20" Nevis wheels, and two have slightly bent rims, both on the inside edge. These have either seven or fourteen, whichever way you want to look at it.

My Sabre 19" 5-spoke wheels seem to be incredibly strong (and super easy to clean). They are likely heavier than the other Jaguar wheels, however.

[Respectful nod to your engineering knowledge.]

I appreciate your perspective. I am a very easy going driver and have no concerns of bending wheels. I have found a set of takoba wheels but am not sold on the asking price just yet. I further would like to find the source for the spacers before pulling the trigger on the wheels.

these cars look really great when dressed in 5 spokers!!!

H&R seem to be the ones some owners use, although you may need to cut a bit of the non-threaded part of the original wheel studs off, depending on how they mate with your new wheels. See the first post in this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ning***-76365/

I have a pair of 15mm and a pair of 20mm that I bought from another owner, but I haven't gotten around to putting them on the car yet.

kj,

thank you for the response. I will look into getting the proper spacers. I may consider doing as you did and get several sets. to me, even the current set up the 2007 xk has could have the rear wheels spaced out a bit...I am thinking 15mm. it would actually still keep the wheels nicely within the fender wells and I suspect that rubbing would not be an issue. it would also allow it to look even a bit more muscular at the "shoulders".

thank you again for your feedback in this thread.

best,

pcb

Yep, that seems to be what I've seen in threads on this forum, 20mm in front and 15mm in the rear, with no rubbing issues. Plan to give it a try, in a month or so, when I have some time, and am doing some other mods.
