I scanned the DTC with my own IDS and low and behold I got the same results as the main dealer.
I then tried to re calibrate the brake pressure sensor to get a failed message
On further investigation I then ran an ABS module install to which this recalibrated the YAW Control , Lateral Control, ABS Module , DTC ect
during the process which took maybe 20 minutes the IDS cleared all the DTC codes and did the recalibration and low and behold all correct.
Pressed the ignition start button and guess what :-) the engine started no problems no warnings.
This process cost me the sum total of £80.00 which included the mongoose cable.
Having scanned the car today there are no error codes no failed components and no DTC's.
I have used thee car for over 200 miles this weekend and no problems whatsoever.
I have my XKR back and sorted ..£3k better off than if I had taken notice of the S tealer.
All the car wanted was a reboot.
It seems apparent that the dealers run the SDD on the car, print it out and presume that this is the problem, they don't clear the codes to see if there is a hard fault and have no desire to investigate the possible cause other than take the route of SDD says.... "this is the problem fit the new part"... at the customers expense.
Re run the IDS again and hope they don't get yet another problem from a different module. If they do we pay again

As usual diagnosed and repaired by myself... but I am a happy man.

Congratulations on your DIY fix. Why wouldn't the ABS module reboot itself when you disconnected the battery before? By disconnecting the battery a reprogram would have been initiated.

Where did you buy the current diagnostic machine from? I know you said "Launch", but do you have a link? Any problems in setting it up? How much was it? Other out of warranty members maybe interested it this.

Hi DGL
The problem when disconnecting the battery is all hard codes are recorded in the ECU with mileage and severity
The car will not crank if it does not see the correct data from the ABS Module or a fault is logged in communication between the two.
Only with the SDD IDS jaguar diagnostics can you reinstall the ABS Module which during the process clears the DTC error codes and re initialises the Module.
The same process if you were to fit a new one at the dealers this would then have to be calibrated with the diagnostics SDD similar to setting the adaptions for a new part on later cars.
I purchased one diagnostic machine a Launch Pro Tablet which does 40 or so cars and the Jaguar OEM SDD software and mongoose cable which you install on either a laptop or tablet.
The SDD software you can buy with a cable from eBay for £89.00
which worked perfectly ..very handy piece of software.
I liked the Jaguar SDD as it is the same as the factory so the print out I got from the dealers is identical to what I can produce myself.

The launch I purchased was a little more expensive :-)

Really pleased you got this problem sorted. Which Launch diagnostic model did you use?

The Jaguar SDD I have is the current dealer software which runs on a laptop with a mongoose cable.

I just have to bring this theead back from the dead.
Few days ago my 2008 xkr has left me stranded for the first time ever. Ignition on but will not start. No matter what I tried , battery reset, pushing hard on brakes, charged up the battery, jump start, different ignition key, key in the slot . Wasted good day or two trying to figure this out.
started doing some diagnostics and brake preasure seemed to be not working properly. Did more searching and found this thread.
Turns out it was as simple as recalibarating brake preasure sensor with SDD. Took a few minutes and car started right up...

So, "re-calibarating brake preassure sensor with SDD", This a DIY fix or a dealer fix? I have an '08 too. Thanks for details.

it's a DIY if you have SDD.
AlexJag, it would be helpful if you posted pics of where you were in SDD to get to this calibration or at a minimum "Go to....", time permitting.

Thank you. More for me to learn. Hoping my own diagnostic kit covers everything but will read up on this

The question is: What caused the failure to start?

Well it sounds like a common issue as multiple threads on this . Although others resolved it by stepping hard on brakes. In my case all the lights started going funky before it happened while the car was running so I'm assuming that some kind of a voltage fluctuation.
