Default 2010 XK Passenger Seat will not lock after lever pulled to Access Back Seat

We just got 2010 Jaguar XK. We pulled up the passenger seat so that my son could get in the back seat.

After this the front passenger seat would not go back into place and lock. It swings freely backwards and forwards. Maybe the cable came loose from where the latch holds the seat in place?

I don’t think it is the motor as it seems to have come loose after pulling the handle.

I think the first thing to do is remove the seat rear panel (described in the service manual) to see whats happening in there.

I downloaded the service manual and I can find where the bottom tensioners hold the seat upholstery tight, but it is underneath the seat. I can remove the two tensioners here, but since I can't see them I believe it would be very difficult to put them back and retension the seat after it is done. Is this something I can do without removing the passenger seat from the car? I really appreciate everyone's help!

Read this thread from beginning to end before you do anything. You will have to use the Jaguar SDD software to recalibrate the passenger seat.

I do believe the flip-forward of the seat back is the problem here, it won't catch in the 'normal' position. The seat itself and the motor movement isn't the issue.

Thanks! I read the thread completely. I may very well be wrong, but the problem with my passenger seat seems mechanical rather than software related. We pulled up the latch for my son to get into the back seat. After that the seat-back will fall forwards and backwards freely. It's like something came off track or is not catching the seat back after the lever was pulled to move the back up forward to allow a passenger to get into the back seat. When we pull the lever on the driver's side seat it moves up then locks back afterwards. I hope that explains it better.

Maybe removing the cover at the pivot/joint may provide some view of what'

s happening:

I was able to move the leather out of the way and take pics of the hinge on each seat. First pic is from the driver seat which locks correctly. Second is from the passenger seat the does not lock. looks like there is a broken plastic piece on the non locking seat. Also, the gears seem to be a lot lower compared to the working seat,

I should have time to remove the plastic cover near the hinge this evening and I can share the pics.

Bill, it appears that you're right, that it's a mechanical problem and not a software reset.

Note that Jaguar dealers do not repair broken parts. They are in the business of selling and installing brand new OEM Jaguar parts. Hopefully, you can easily repair whatever is broken.

Here are shots from the seat that locks correctly.

One thing I notice is that I see gear teeth on the broken hinge mechanism, on the working seat there is just one tooth that the seat sits on when it is put back in place. I can’t tell from these shots where it locks. That part was not visible to me.

Looks like the seat has to come out for a closer inspection.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. At the very least I'm going to have to remove the rear seat panel to reveal what is underneath even if it makes it hard to get it back. If that doesn't reveal it, then I guess it's time to remove the seat from the car. Thank you for your help!

Hope it's easily fixed Bill. Not sure what replacement parts are available - this is all the parts catalog shows:

Thanks! I've seen this parts list, but I could never find the listing of what each part is that corresponds to the number. Do you have that?

That's the list Bill. Some parts are part of an assembly made up of pieces that aren't available individually. Like the throttle body hose (a five dollar part) that is only available with the connecting T piece for over a grand. Even that T piece assembly ain't worth over $50. Grrrr.

I got this from my local Land Rover Dealer and Jaguar Service Center parts department. I think the important is number 2 and 3 which I believe are the two cables that connect the lever to the seat latch. I think the parts lady called it a trigger cable. It looks similar to a window regulator cable which just *might* mean maybe it came loose somehow. I don't know. They don't sale this part on its own. It's part of the seat back assembly which is only $9470. If needed, I have priced a seatback on ebay for $200. First I need to see if the cable is actually the problem and go from there. Unfortunately, I leave for New York for a week in 2 days so this may have to wait till I get back.

Kind of doubt it’s the cable, because you wouldn’t be able to release the seat back without it. Sounds like a problem with a latching mechanism somewhere in the photos you posted.

You may be right. Kinda 6 of one 1/2 dozen of another as if the cable or one of the pieces of the hinge is broken, I will have to purchase a full seat back from a salvage yard to get the piece I need.
