Default 2011 XKR Windshield

I bought a 2011 XKR convertible last May (2018) and have noted that the OEM (Jaguar Pilkington) windshield glass seems to be quite soft. I don't drive it in areas where it would be prone to pebbles / sand hitting it. I have noted numerous slight nicks in it just from normal highway and street driving. Has anyone else experienced this with this model? If so, what did you replace it with or????

Other than that, it is the best car I have ever owned.

I had that problem with my 07. Ultimately it was damaged and insurance replaced it. There's a TSB out from Jaguar regarding the windshield but it's from 06 (JAGA501-001). I would assume the problems were rectified by the time yours went into production.

My 2011 is pitted too. It's mostly noticeable when I drive facing the sun. I'm not sure what I'll do about it. If I replace it I'd like to get an OEM glass.
New cars have wide tires and short rear decks and this makes it likely that the car in front of you will throw sand and whatever into your windshield. Have to keep a good distance from the car in front of you. Remember the cars of the 60's and earlier with long trunks and a big distance between the rear wheels and the rear bumper? Wasn't as big a problem then. We'll just have to keep replacing windshields I guess.

Just wondering out loud; Can a windshield be polished?

Yes, but you probably won't be satisfied with the results if you're trying to remedy pitting like the OP described. It's simply too deep into the glass to polish out completely, even with power tools.

Lots of products are available on Amazon. Read the user reviews.

I've used it many times on automotive glass, and it can do a decent job dealing with very light imperfections. It is also my 'go-to' compound for stubborn water spot removal
Similar to Q&C, I've only used it on side and rear glass on my jag. I get my front glass replaced every few years thanks to the $50 deductible coverage on my insurance.

Peace!
Vince
