The last Jaguar XK came off the production line on Wednesday 23rd July 2014.
This same situation of final Model Year happened with the previous XK8/XKR and has given rise to much discussion on the XK8/XKR forum. The last XK8 came off the production line on Friday 27th May 2005 but several US owners have 2006 Model Year cars.
The reasons for discrepancy between Calendar Year and Model Year are:
1. Jaguar introduces the new Model Year in late August/early September
2. USA registration gives Model Year as the date of import to the country and not the date the vehicle rolled off the line
In the case of the XK mentioned in this thread, it will be (2) that applies. The vehicle cleared customs in 2015 and is legitimately documented as a 2015 model.
Australia has a far more sensible regulation. All vehicles must be stamped with the actual production date. This way a buyer knows if it's been sitting out in a field in the UK for months before being delivered to a dealer.

All USA Jaguars have the month/year of construction prominently displayed on a sticker in the driver's door jamb. That date may or may not be the same as the model year under which the car is sold.

2. Is not correct. The usa model year has nothing to do with when the car cleared customs. My 2008 s-type was imported into the us in july 2007, yet it is a 2008 us-spec car. The usa model year is whatever the constructor (i.e., jaguar) has certified it to be, with the vin identification plate having the appropriate model year 10th digit as installed on the assembly line.

All Canadian-market Jaguars also have the date of production and the model year (which is often different - a car built in 10/08 will be a 2009 model year car) clearly stamped on the sticker. No confusion at all.
What DOES confuse people on this side of the Atlantic is the British identification system - especially when they speak of "G reg" or "53 reg" (yes, I am making these up but this is the pattern)...to anyone outside the UK this gives no information whatever regarding either the date of manufacture or the model year. Perhaps we need a primer.

The British reference to 'G-Reg' and so forth is based on a system begun in 1963 where a letter of the alphabet was placed at the end of the actual registration to identify the year in which the vehicle was sold. Vehicles sold in 1963 had the letter 'A' at the end of the vehicle number, so a licence plate showing FKX42A meant the vehicle was sold in 1963 and subject to taxation as such.
Certain letters, such as 'I' and 'O' were skipped to avoid confusion with numbers 1 and 0 respectively. When the letter 'Z' (pronounced 'zed' in Britain) was used, the position of the letter was moved to the front of the registration number to allow the system to continue.
For vehicles sold in Britain, the licence plate is affixed by the selling dealer and remains with the vehicle until it is either scrapped, or the current owner decides to sell the registration number as a 'vanity' desired by someone else. It is also possible to purchase a number plate from various vendors after proof of ownership is established.
Perhaps one of the UK members can clarify the system as it is in current use today.

The UK number plate system does (sort of) show the year of manufacturer (or to be precise, 1st registration), for each calendar year there are two numbers. For example in 2004 there is an 04 plate from 1. March to 28. September 2004 (like my XJR, was registered BC04LPN) and there is a 54 plate (e.g.BC54LPN) which would be 29 September to 28/29 February the next year. It's just a way of identifying when the car was first delivered, which usually is when it was built.
