My first XKR was the 5.0 and it got totaled last year, I own a c63 now but dying for the same experience again. I am looking at the 2007 4.2 version and it seems like it may be reliable, my 2010 if you look at the forums was plaiged will fuel issues and was a godsend it got totaled.
I am looking at this one with very good conditioned seats and interior looking like it was maintained well, I am just surprised the waterpump never went out on this one. They asking close to 10K which I feel is a steal for these. Should I have jagaur do a PPI inspection or will any shop be the same since I know jaguar is around $650 for a PPI

I have my post purchase inspection with a jag only indie shop tomorrow. $200.
No jag shop within an hour of where the car was when I purchased. But gave the shop I chose for pre-purchase a checklist.
They charged $90. Identified all known issues (without being told) as well as additional. Sent over 30 pics of the undercarriage and suspension.
Dealer is great, but any indie shop that knows Jags well will suffice.
2007-09 is a great choice. I just bought an 08 portfolio and love it.
Good luck!
I concur. Dealer is best (if they have techs that have worked on these cars). Many Jag/ LR Independents would do a good job.
Yes, these cars are significantly undervalued for what they are.
Had a good indy shop do a PPI on my 07 XKR. 250. Very complete, let me look while car was up on lift. I have no personal experience w the 5.0, but 4.2 XK/R's have a reputation for motor, transmission and general reliability. For me, 420hp is enough to get the job done.
If 420 HP isn't enough, a pulley and tune can get you 500 HP. Search this Forum for more info.
HP isnt the big thing anymore, my C63 pushes 600hp and my tranny went out from it, looking to take it safe, esp after the 5.0 issues I had. Good to know its not as bad of an issue. JAG dealer is 45 mins away from seller just have to convince them to make the PPI drive
4.2 V8 is the best Engine Jaguar made, anything around 2008/2009 is the end of the line and any issues would be sorted out. 5.0s were plagued with issues I wouldn't swap mine for a newer 5L model
Just make sure that the service history is fully up to date

You see the carfax I pasted, not sure if your able to see. I just see a big missing record history after second owner, he said he did work to it and oil changes so assume at places that dont track it
You can't rely on CarFax to buy a car. They tell you that if you read the CarFax Terms of Use.
But you can rely on CarFax to not buy a car, as they disclose all the flaws that are disclosed to them.
Only you can do your due diligence. A "clean" CarFax is never enough. Paying a professional for a Pre-Purchase Inspection based on the attached Jaguar CPO Checklist usually pays for itself, either as a negotiating tool to get a lower price or a reason to walk away from it. I recommend two PPIs, one for the mechanicals and driveability and the other from a body shop certified to do aluminum repairs for any paint and/or body/chassis work.
