Congratulations. Excellent looking car. Re the fan. I changed that on both my previous XK's as it drove me mad. It's a really easy fix (I'm no mechanic). The trim infront of the fan behind the wheel just pops off and the fan itself is pretty accessible and just held in with a couple of screws if memory serves. When I change mine for a new one it was silent.

And yes, the aspirator does come on as soon as you unlock the car - part of the pre-flight sequence as the car's systems power up into 'convenience mode', ready for engine start.

I don't know if it is normal but I have noticed that there is a second fan noise on my '10 XKR when in convenience mode and it seems to come from the passenger foot well area.

Passenger footwell is where the aircon blower lives - perhaps it's spinning slowly, just to flex its muscles. But that's purely a guess...

I have had my 2009 XK for over two years, never used a battery tender.

I also doubt I've ever gone more than 14 days with it un-driven since I purchased it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure to lock the car even when parked in the garage. I'm planning on getting a Cetek 3300 charger to keep the battery topped up, but I'll still take the advice.

Yes, it's a 2008 Portfolio Edition, Celestial Black (dark, dark metallic blue). And it's bloody gorgeous.
