Default Achievement Unlocked: My XKR is Here

Here it is with 1700+ miles of road grime, arriving on the transporter:

And here it is, freshly washed with a full tank of gas and about 60 miles more on the odometer than when it rolled off the transporter, parked in my garage:

Now, I've been reading the forum for a couple of weeks, and I see that there's a real problem with batteries in the XKRs, and I have a question. I can hear SOMETHING (sounds like a low-speed fan) running in the dash even when the engine is off and the vehicle is shut down. I imagine if that thing runs 24/7/365, it's going to eventually kill the battery. What is it, where is it, and why does it run all the time?

It's a little HVAC fan that runs for a couple minutes after you leave the car. It sucks through the little grill behind the wiper stalk on the dash. It tells the HVAC puter how warm the interior is and it along with the sunlight sensor on the dash determine how cold the AC is blowing to hit you temp goal. Kind of gimmicky but it works.

I believe if you lock the car it will go off. Good luck with your new ride.

Congratulations on your new cat. Yes, do lock the Jag even while in the garage. It shuts down the systems and reduces any parasitic battery drains.

+1 on what Ranchero50 said. It's called the aspirator and it won't kill the battery if you always lock your car, even when it's parked in your garage. For details, see this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...luster-190635/

Does this HVAC fan also come on when you get into the car before you start it?

Thanks.

As Stuart S said, HVAC fan is a poor name. It's an aspirator fan and just 'breaths' a little air flow across the temp sensor in the dash. Makes kind of a burble noise under the dash when you get in and after you shut the engine off. It will eventually shut off on it's own or you can lock the doors to put the car 'asleep' quicker.

You must double lock your doors to shut EVERYTHING down. Push the lock button twice. Do it everytime you leave the car and it will help the battery drain. Get a trickle charger if you have a battery issues after double locking religiously.

Welcome to our addiction.

The aspirator fan can become noisy and is not worth trying to fix if that is the case. From what I have read over the years it's just a poor design and functioning normally. It use to drive me crazy, but grew to live with it.

Enjoy your fancy XKR!

Because it used to drive you crazy and you gave up trying to fix it, in your car it's called the exaspirator!

A search will bring up how to get at that little fan so you can clean and quiet it down.

I really am loving the '08 Portfolio's Celestial black, good looking car!

Thanks for posting, and maybe some more?
