Aggressive exhaust
I've had that same experience... got behind a Maserati and was all "wow".
My understanding is that Maserati uses a Ferrari exhaust. I know that Ferrari expends a lot of effort to get that sound just right.

However, it still isn't going to sound like the Maser.
The Jaguar has a 6,200RPM rev limiter.
The maser is 7,200RPM rev limiter?
You'd have to engineer a higher RPM setup into the Jaguar to get closer to the Maser's sound.
There is a lot more force to go up that 1,000RPM.
Out of all the exhaust videos for a 4.2L I've heard this suggestiong takes the cake.

Your contribution to the OP thread has been invaluable I must say

I just went through my browser history and hunted this one down.
This is a XK center section(has one resonator instead of XKR's two),
Elite RR Back Box.
I do not recall if the cats were changed or not.
Powerhouse owned this car, but I believe he has moved over to a newer Jaguar.

All I see is a black box? What am I missing?

Lots of videos on YouTube of various exhaust setups. Note that a naturally aspirated 4.2L will not sound the same as a supercharged XKR with identical exhaust systems, and the 4.2L won't sound the same as the 5.0L.
Here's a naturally-aspirated 4.2L with the factory exhaust followed by the Elite rear box with quad tips. Too bad he didn't rev it higher...

The forum seems to not handle things other than youtube.

You need a flat plane crank engine, for one.
Nice one similar to my current set up although I'm running 100s and it's looouuddd
Ah, you're right. I thought I remembered the Maserati sounding like my Ferrari's high pitched V8, but that isn't correct.
Side by side comparison here for anyone interested, seems relevant to the discussion:

Saw a GT in lot yesterday and couldn't help myself , parked up next to the xk it is clearly a monsterious car although they do a brilliant job in the design department hiding its generous bulk
