Ancillary Belt Fitting on XKR
Hi,
having removal the failed alternator and looking to fit the new alternator and ancillary belt. Whilst I've plenty of post for fitting the main belt connected to the supercharger and co I have found little on fitting this belt and specific the movement of the tensioner. It appears you need a special tool or at least a breaker bar with a square head of the end, and to fit in the square opening on the tensioner. (I have managed to release the nut on the tensioner) Can anybody kindly offer some advice on the tool and if I am on the right track with releasing the pressure from this tensioner.
Many thanks.

From memory, I think it's 3/8 inch square drive found on any 3/8th socket set.

When I was looking to do this job myself I found online a tool thin but sturdy:
Really good as access is tight, did not use on my Jag as ended up getting in a good mobile mechanic in the end and had him do the water pump at the same time, if yours has not been changed recommend you use the opportunity to change yours. I did use this on the Audi due to length and thinness allows easy use

I just replaced both of the belts on my XKR within the last few months and I used this...
Will it last long enough for my grandson to inherit it from me? Probably not. Did it do the job? Yes, and very well.

I also use and recommend the same type of tool Jaguar!2 linked above. The flat bar makes access easier and the long handles give you enough leverage so you can easily hold the tensioner all the way open. Many variations of the tool including a Harbor Freight version.
Worthwhile tool to own.
