Any cars I shouldn’t challenge???
I find my friends arrangement a bit strange, the husband and wife each purchase their own cars and they are territorial on who uses which car. Especially if one has a nicer car than the other. Me, I pay for all vehicles and then get to use whichever I want any time I want! My one buddy has his SUV and then a nice car to drive on the weekend. His Wife drives a Nissan Rogue and isn't allowed in his cars. And he wouldn't be seen in that econo-suv. Buying the Wife a car that I want also saves space in my driveway. Since I am not a car preservationist like some, being used by me or her as a daily driver is all good. Or she uses my SUV when she needs.
But I am married and in the interest of marital bliss do get input on the make and model...somewhat as in the end I make the call. I am blaming her but reality is I agree on being overly ostentatious.
I've found that, at least against most other cars of the same Era, the XKR will hold its own. I've taken on the odd offering from Bavaria as well as Japan, but most ordinary dailies will lose, not to say I won't be surprised someday lol Even some of the newer base model or smaller V8s (and V6), say Chrysler products with the 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi. Haven't raced an SRT 6.4 variant as of yet. Hellcat anything def a no no lol. Same goes with 5.7, 6.0, and some 6.2 GM offerings and 4.6 Mustangs and some 5.0s (older versions). Be wary of some Foxbody Mustangs, at least around here. Many are extensively modded. Definitely better from a roll as, even on a track, XKR fights a losing battle for traction.
Speaking of which, took my XKR to the track today, had a best of 13.02 @ 109 MPH. Desperate to break into 12s, I will go back next week I think. I did beat a Pontiac G8 with either a 6.0L or 6.2L LS. Not too familiar with those cars. Lost against a Supercharged Mustang GT 5.0 (2018 Maybe?). Even on my best run, he walked away with an 11.2 @ 13- something MPH. Worst run of the day, I made a pass with everything off...smoked the tire a 3rd of the track, got a 20 sec run @ 65 and lost to a Miata lol Ya, traction control is your friend lol
I suspect our cars would do very well with an LSD or locking diff of a sort and wider tires.
Anyone know how to removed melted and burnt rubber 😅

From a roll and, well, there's no other way to say it, I was owned lol the plucky XKR managed to keep him within sight, and maybe a few car lengths, ok several, and maybe, just maybe with enough room, I could have reeled him in. But that's probably wishful thinking.
Now I have taken on the odd Challenger and Charger RT, as well as the older 6.1 SRT and been successful
The XKR was quick in its day, but there are much faster vehicles now days with AWD, even a 4 cylinder AMG hatch etc that can blitz the Jag. The problem is the lack of traction off the line and heavy weight.
Accept the Jag for what is was initially designed for as a grand tourer first with a sprinkle of sportiness and enjoy.

only made a cursory look, but, i can't seem to find anyone who has stripped any XKR or XKR-S down to nothing in order to squeeze every tenth of a second out of it. would be nice to see at least one project like that. a true, capital-L Lightweight that hearkens back to what jaguar's racing teams did with the E-type chassis. it's difficult to imagine someone would want to strip such a beautiful interior down to nothing. perhaps someone with the time and means to do it is out there waiting for the right salvage-titled example.
LOL, I remember from my Marketing class in college, one of the things they brought up was car purchase and the love people feel for their vehicles. It seems that if your income level or situation is such that the Infiniti is the best you can afford and you reach that goal, people are all in on that vehicle!
Younger guy at my gym bought a G37 convertible. He adores that car as much as you love your Jag. Never think just because your dreams are bigger that others aren't achieving their dreams also, whether a Prius, Infiniti, or whatever.
Certainly all of us on this board are well past that dream, so your question is easily answered here, hell no we don't dream of ANY car that is lower in class but quicker.

Like many of you, I prefer the winding road... our cars are not dragsters... unless you modified them. They are however an excellent example of a touring gt. Performance, comfort and most importantly, balance.
In my experience, on the most squirrelly roads, in even the most inclement weather, very few can keep up with me. And I pass many. Much to their disbelief.
