Default Anyone ever pulled the insturment cluster?

So I'm off to the market late one night, and I notice the tach seems odd.
Seems a little overly dark.
The inner ring with the lettering RPM and X1000 is not lit (nor is the lettering itself.) The outer markings and needle are fine.

I hope to talk to my dealer this week and see if this is covered under my extended, and if so then I have no worries. If not, the R&R looks very simple and I suspect I can repair/replace a burnt LED if it is accessible from the back.

I worry about the immobilizer system. I understand to install a NEW cluster, the keys must be programed to the cluster, but is this an issue when just doing a remove and replace of the same unit?

Shouldn't I be able to pull the cluster....have a look around... and then pop it back in without dealership intervention?

Any input from first hand experience would be appreciated!

Many thanks!
Vince

if you do pull it, disconnect the battery first and keep the ignition keys away from it until buttoned back up

Thanks Adrian,

I'll swing by the library and check what alldata has to say.

Already have a basic shop manual and parts breakdown. R&R looks to be pretty standard for an instrument cluster.

With the battery disconnected, I can't foresee issues, but the complexity of today's ignition immobilizers keeps me leery.
I'm 45 minutes tow to the nearest dealership so if the task were to trigger the inhibitor, towing would set me back a few buck plus an hour shop labor for a 10 minute reset. All over a $2 LED I can solder in blindfolded.

Just hoping someone has already experienced unplugging the cluster and reconnecting it without issues

Vince,
How did you get a basic shop manual and parts breakdown? Thought these didn't exist for XK's!.............
