Yes and no, you can skip forward and back tracks but that's about it. All depends on your use, I personally only use for Spotify which doesn't show on the touchscreen anyway so I've lost nothing but gained Bluetooth streaming

I suspect that the reason for the difference is the Audio Connectivity Module. It became standard equipment beginning with the 2009 model year (last year of the 4.2L) and provided integrated iPod connectivity with the touchscreen and steering wheel controls. It was also made available as a dealer-installed accessory for pre-2009 models. Unfortunately, the ACM did not include Bluetooth.
I just bought a 2012 Jaguar XK and wanted to stream Spotify, so I bought the Bovee WMA1000 and the 30pin connector cord on Amazon. It was $95.00 for both (the connector wasn't with the car when I bought it)
It would play music for a second or two and then PAUSE. It was maddening. I searched everywhere for what to do. Finally I found a post in a forum that said all you need to do is buy 1 song on your iTunes account. I figured it was worth $1.29 to try it. I purchase and downloaded "Fight the Power" by the Isley Brothers.
IT WORKED!!! I can stream on Spotify ..and every other app I have on my iPhone Xr. I wanted to share because I am certain many would have the same maddening experience I did. I just couldn't find a resolution ..until I did!
The only negative is that EVERYTIME I start my car it plays "Fight the Power" by the Isley Brothers. No biggie ..I dig the tune but I just open up Spotify and it plays WHATEVER I want!
Perhaps, I will get sick of that song someday! haaaa If I do I may download a soft meditation sound. ...until THAT drives me crazy! Haaa

I have seen someone else with a 2007 XKR and Invery Airdual adapter who also reported the buttons not te be working. Connecting and passing through sound does work perfectly.
I tried Android and iPhone, with different music-apps. My car has the optional ACM module (iPod-connector/aux/usb).The steering wheel buttons do work when playing music from a usb-stick.
Can I ask if you could use your steering wheel buttons with the Bovee 1000 bluetooth adapter in the '07 4.2? The steering wheel buttons don't work in my '07 4.2 and I'm wondering if there's a way to fix that. I've got an Invery Airdual adapter, which seems to be a clone of the Bovee, and just like the Bovee it officially supports only XKR from 2009 onwards. Maybe I should switch to a Bovee if the buttons did work for you, maybe there are small differences.

Anyway, it means the 07 XKR steering wheel buttons can be used to control some devices connected to bluetooth in some cases. Maybe I'll try to buy an old iPod somewhere before I try to buy a Bovee bluetooth adapter instead of the Invery bluetooth adapter I have now...
