Default USB and Ipod Connector Question

Hello all, this is my first post.

I have a 2013 XKR which came with usb and ipod connectors in the tray bin, the ipod connector has a cable with an ipod terminal at one end and the connector to the car at the other. Since I do not own i-anything, this connection is useless to me. I am trying to connect my MS telephone for charging or music playing if it is possible. My questions are:

1- Is there a cable that can connect to the Jaguar end that has a female usb or a male mini usb at the other end.
2- Is there a connector converter that attaches to the existing ipod end of the provided cable and turns it into an usb female or male mini usb connection at the other end?
3- Is the Jaguar connector, in the tray bin, proprietary and nothing but the provided cable can connect to it?

Thank you,

cai

Default USB and Ipod Connector Question

I think you're out of luck trying to use anything but the proprietary cable and i-something with that port.

But you should be able to use the USB port to connect everything else. You can use it to charge or play mp3s from a thumb drive (and some phones will act like a thumb-drive for this purpose). And if I'm not mistaken, on a 2013 you should be able to stream music via Bluetooth.

+1 for my same experience thus far. I've tried an Apple 40p to BT receiver but haven't been able to get that to work with my Android phone in the Jag yet. The receiver worked fine set up identically in a 2011 Audi.

I didn't know 2013 had BT audio streaming.

I'm sorry, I speak from a point of ignorance. My 2010 doesn't, but I thought I read that it was added in later models around 2013. I shouldn't have said anything because I don't know.

I bought a 64 GB flash drive and put ALL my music on it. Stuck the drive into the USB port and that's where it stays. All 8,000+ songs at my touch-screen fingertips.

There's no BT streaming on 2013's. What's an MS phone--LOL? I use a flash USB memory stick. The memory stick works great. In the audio menu all albums and folders are listed for easy access without sequentially going through everything.

Thank you for all your responses. One reason I ask if there is an adapter cable is because my Audi A8 came with a set-up similar to the Jaguar's, but Audi does make cables with several different terminals for USB or mini-USB, among others. Plus the i-something that comes with the car.

Maybe at some point Jaguar may see the light in that not everyone owns i-something equipment.

Au revoir,

cai

The Tune2Air connects to my 2012 and automatically accepts anything my iPhone plays or streams... I'd think any Bluetooth smartphone would also work. You might not have the ability to skip tracks with the steering wheel control, but that's not a huge problem.

To Rw99:

What is Tune2Air? My MS telephone has bluetooth and pairs for calls with the car, but I do not see anything that I can use to stream music.

Thank you.

I tried about 6 different cables/devices before getting a tune2air. If you want to add music digitally to the car and it isn't an apple device you have 2 choices, either use a flash drive in the USB slot or use a tune2air connected to the 30pin iDevice cable. With the tune2air you can connect any Bluetooth device to stream music.

Thank you for all the information. I think that the Tune2Air 1000 comes the closest to what I am trying to do. I can stream music from the telephone to the car and at the same time I can use the USB to charge the telephone.

It also seems that Amazon is running a sale on these devices.

Default Windows Phone rocks.

Hello Cai, welcome to the forums. Congratulations on the purchase of your car and your choice of smart phones. We Windows Phone users are the top 3% of smart phone users .

There is no built in Bluetooth streaming option but you can make do with the Tune2Air product mentioned.

Thank you for the welcome LordMykel. I agree with you regarding the choice of telephone. Things are clearer, as explained in this thread and the one you mentioned.

Thank you also to all those who have helped me on this issue.
