Apple Car Play / Android Auto using stock display and controls!
I have a 2011 XK convertible. I was delighted to stumble upon the Mr12volt CarPlay/android auto interface system which I purchased and hoped to install today, the first Saturday after receiving it. Immediately ran into a problem. The first step shown in their installation video (gosh I wish they had written instructions!) is to install a loop to bypass the XK's native USB system. The video shows the native unit to be inside the right rear fender. Unfortunately, the vehicle in the video is a coupe. I have a convertible. The location shown in the video is entirely taken up with elements of the convertible top mechanism. Does anyone happen to know where this unit is located in the convertible? Has anyone successfully installed Mr12volt in a convertible XK? Thanks!
There are pictures in this thread that show you the location where you need to plug in the loop. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rtible-293797/.
Chas, if you get stuck at any other point, I have videos in a thread from around late December that show it painstakingly step by step.
Broken into 7 or 8 clips, so should be easy to find the spot you need.

Thank you for the offer. I should have thought to read this thread before I started! Once I figured out where the bypass thread went, after an entire Saturday I was able to get Mr12Volt installed and working. The video instructions seem to have a number of gaps in the process that you have to work out on your own. The ribbon connectors seemed to be the most problematic part of it, and based on other comments I've now read I hope they don't haunt me with future problems. But for now it is working fine!

I also want to know. Bought mine a couple months ago, waiting for warmth to install.
I’m very happy with mine. It works great, sounds really nice and with the recent updates to CarPlay, there are more apps than ever that are compatible. Installation was pretty easy…the hardest part for me was installing the most loop in the trunk behind the pump for my convertible top. Get it, you won’t be sorry…
And yeah, I am super happy. Love it. Best upgrade so far.
I have a 2008 Convertible. I have spoken to the Mr 12v guy in the UK about putting one in my car. What I really want is a reversing camera and Apple Car Play would be a bonus. It seems that Mr12v does not offer reversing camera functionality so basically I’m looking at £650 for something I half want.
Does anyone have any other options ?
Thanks

You can do a quick search on it in these forums and you'll see several solutions. But with a 2008, you will have to run the cable from the camera to the unit, which will involve removing some things.
Your vids are super useful, thanks!
yeah apologies for the slow methodical clips. Had just gotten Bells Palsy with vertigo. So my brain was foggy. Well that and I really suck at video editing.
glad they helped!

Ignore my premature rant a few weeks back saying that my system stopped connecting to Apple CarPlay just after the warranty period. It was clearly something on my end, as after updating my phone and resetting the wireless connections, CarPlay connected again and has been great since.
I started this thread and am probably one of the earlier adopters here. I still think it's the best aftermarket upgrade you can make to an XK alongside JagWrangler's remote top controller.
