Audio amplifier is very hot
I have an 2007 XK here in the UK with premium sound . I have had the car over a year and the radio and CD has never worked for more than 2 mins before it fades away to silent .
Now its 30 degrees plus in the UK I decided to crawl about in the footwell , get the carpet up and look at the amp . Its hot , really hot to touch . I went for a drive of about 1 hour with the audio off as I always do . I returned started messing about and used the CD for the two or three mins before it cuts out . Its almost too hot to touch .
Any experience of this fault ?
My code reader shows constant earths on several speakers , last spring I had them all out , checked the resistance and connections all good .
Thank you

speakers should definitely not be earthed - but they are not directly connected to the amp behind the dash.. if you have the premium sound system, they are connected to the amp under the passenger footwell... the CD player in the premium unit is "just" a CD/Radio unit with power inputs (on/off/12+/light switch etc) - and a MOST optical cable through (in+out). If that gets really hot, there is probably a (power) transistor inside the unit that needs to work really hard because of failed capacitors or other components.. a replacement unit is fairly cheap on ebay.. but probably needs to be programmed into the car..
if you do not have the premium audio, the speakers are directly connected to the CD/Radio unit.. and there is a cable with all 4 outputs going to the right side footwell (near the door hinge) and there is the connector going to the speakers (see my audio upgrade thread)
given the heat exchanger sits in that area as well - and in hot weather you do not use it - it can also be that you just felt the heat from the heat exchanger pipes (the coolant from the engine actually flows through there) and that gets realllllllly hot... (DONT TOUCH!) I had the same on my old '07 but that was after driving 200+ for longer periods in 48C outside - including the radio shutting down
