Default Brake test

Well yesterday I was on my way to a golf outing when I had an opportunity to test the brakes. While driving on one of our country road at about 50 mph out walked a doe and her fawn. I hit the brakes and was impressed with the 50-0 time. The deer just stood there maybe 5 feet in front of me and looked at me. This was about 5 miles from my house and around 10 in the morning. Granted we have a lot of deer around here but my 1st I had to lay into the brakes. So the deer just walked across the road and the fawn followed and on I went .

That could have been very bad! Good thing you have that quick brake foot.

Their all over the place, loss of habitat is their biggest issue. Where can they go? We have a doe with two fawns walking around our area, the doe will eat bread out of your hand. After eating all the bird seed from the bird feeder, smart doe.

I read somewhere that the deer population is the highest it's ever been. Ever!

Don't ask me how they know that.

Crazy.

A deer jumped out on the hwy when my girlfriend was driving VDP home from work at night. If it weren't for the 4 wheel double wishebone suspension and agile cat like handling, the story would've ended much differently than her saying "I was glad to be driving the Jag when that deer darted onto the hwy".

My 05 XJR and 07 XK had wonderful braking systems. That's why I'm always amused by folks installing "horse ball" brake upgrades, all out track cars excepted.

It is true, they need more deer hunting to cull the population. The article I read pointed out that their natural predators are driven out plus Deer are fringe forest animals. With the way development has cut up forests there are tons of fringe. Predators gone, habitat favorable equals lots of Deer.

When I built our house we bought property that was bordered by a Hi-tension power line right of way. We usually have a herd of deer that run up and down these power line property. So we see 6-12 deer a day and now they have their fawns. So with fewer kids taking up hunting the deer just get killed on the road. The down side is we have a hell of a Lime tick problem.

Same scenario here, 2 days ago. Deer standing in the middle of the road, not concerned about my approaching car. Still, the story I will ALWAYS remember goes, like this.

The day we picked up our Brand new 2012 Jaguar XJL I was about to cross the road that separates city from county.

I pulled over to the road shoulder. My wife demanded to know why I pulled over.

"Because I want to wait for an other car to be in front of me, in case a deer charges out of the forest"

"Yeah, right..." - she rolled her eyes....

So, I waited for a few second when a very large and very shiny black SUV roared by near the speed limit of 55 MPH. I pulled out behind the SUV....

Not more than a quarter of a mile down the road, a large deer charged out of the woods, aiming to cross the road to the creek on the other side. The crash sent the deer flipping end-over-end in the air several times, landing back in the trees. The SUV pulled over with visible damage to the front end.

I continued driving, complaining that we lost our safety car...

My wife's facial expression was priceless...
