Default Buying an XKR via carmax.com

Hello good peoples,

Has any of you guys bought an XKR via carmax.com or know of anyone who has? I was checking it out an it looks like they have some pretty good deals and the warranty doesn't look too bad either. But when spending 60 or 70k+ on a car, of course I am leary about buying from anyone save a Jaguar dealer. I would definitely welcome any input/suggestions you guys have. Thanks in advance!

I've no personal experience but Docuzzie bought his STR from Carmax, it was in (I think) CA and he had it shipped to MD and was happy with the process.
I think he had a friend check it out in CA.

Bought my wife's XK from CarMax the purchase was fine, the warranty is good and fully excepted by my main dealer no questions. I put the car into the main dealer after I bought it for an inspection (supposed to be a pre purchase inspection) nothing was found but if it was I could take the car back to carmax. I would have no problem buying from them again. Things to remember is that car max are not the best at presentation so you may have to look beyond the grime sometimes, but a good wax and valet should put it all right.

Chris, I bought my 2007 XKR from Carmax in Jan. 2011. It had 13,700 miles on it and got it for 47K. They are still selling the same model for the same price a year and a half later, interesting! I would buy from them again in a heart beat. Upon delivery from them, the only problem I could find was the ashtray sliding lid would not stay open. They took it to the local Jag dealer and they would not fix it. So they fixed it at Carmax. I was a bit leery about the job as they had to take the console apart, but they did a fantastic job. I did buy an extended warranty from them for 75k miles, with a co-pay of $50.00 at Carmax or $100.00 elsewhere. I did check out the car originally on Carmax.com and had it brought up to my local Carmax outlet. It cost $99.00 but was well worth it.

Best of luck to you in your purchase.

That is the interesting thing about the prices of these XKRs. For some reason prices are much higher this year than in past years. I guess the economy has gotten better and now everyone is rushing to buy these 5 year old GT convertibles! Ha!

I think buying from Carmax is fine--just realize that what you see is what you get as there is no haggling, whereas you might be able to squeeze a little more off the price at another dealership by waiting until the end of the month, or waiting until they really start to lower the prices.

I brought my 07 XKR from Carmax last week. I paid the transport fee of $700 to ship it from Las Vagas. The car was super clean and only had 23,500 miles on it.

Carmax will fix anything found wrong with the vehicle within the first 30 days so I took the car to a local Jag dealershp to get it inspected and they found a sticking themostat, blown reverse light, and the nav was missing the DVD for Ga which is where I live.

I took the list to Carmax and they were more than willing to fix everything. Add to that you can retrun the vehicle within 5 days of purchase if you're not satisfied.

So far I've been pleased with the experience. Not to mention how redonkouslesly fast this thing is !!!!

I'm jealous!

There is one for sale close to me, but unfortunately it's a particularly ugly color that I wouldn't want to be seen in.

Carmax.com makes it easy. Go to their site, create a user profile, and you can create and save custom searches based on year, make, model ,cost, color, milage, etc and you will get an email when any vehicle in their inventory matches your search criteria. That's how I came across my baby.

I got pre-finanancing before I went to the dealership so I literally arrived to the dealership, test drove the car, wrote a check for the down payment and drove it off the lot.

Carmax truly makes it easy. Extremely pleased with the experience

I was thinking about doing that, but then there's the warranty. These cars are expensive to fix. I have an '05 STR and it's almost $200 to change the oil!! So I've been told that it might be best to go to a dealer where I can possibly get the warranty extended to 100k. But on the other hand, the carmax warranty seems pretty rock solid. But if you guys have already bought XKR's via carmax and are happy with them, then I really think it's an option I need to explore. I'm going to create a profile today and see what comes up. When you say pre-financing, did you get financing through your back or did carmax do that for you as well?
