Car key battery drain

Question Car key battery drain

I had a lot of cars with Keyless go and easy entry and some never needed a new battery for the key.

On my XKR I need at least one CR2032 each 3 months, for each key.

This is very curious! It's just me? What is the explanation?

yup, just you. Key fob batteries last me a LONG time. I change them maybe every 5 years "just in case"

Same here, still on the original ones from the factory.

make sure your contact points where the battery sits are free of dust and corrosion sometimes just moving the battery and it works again

One guy in the forum said he had to carefully and slightly bend one of the contacts so it connected to the battery better to make his function.

The key still works, but I need to be very close to the car to operate de key and after a while the car will signal to change the battery

I don't have problems with the car battery draining.
This is strange, as I have the same problem with both key fobs.
Maybe IKEA battery pack is not so good after all...

I think you've solved the problem. Get some quality batteries, and forget those 'no name' multi-packs (I've tried them in the past, and most of the batteries are already dead).

Default Battery Drain and key fob

I've had that issue and I assume it was because my garage is close enough to where I kept the fob that they "stayed in touch". Now, I can't walk to the garage and start the car with the fob in the house, but the fob drained none the less. Two different cars, so not the fob or the battery. I now keep the fob in a closed metal cookie tin. No more issues.

I had the same problem I had a multipack of Sony batteries lying around the house each one only lasted a month.
Switched to Duracell waiting to see how long this one last

You're in Russia and I know nothing about how CR2032 batteries are marketed there. In the USA, some, but not all, of those batteries are labeled with a shelf life date. I used to buy those batteries on eBay and Amazon because they were really cheap but no longer do so because they didn't last. I now buy them only from local stores so I can read the date and be sure to buy fresh inventory. I suspect that the IKEA batteries didn't last because they were old inventory.

P.S. I recommend keeping a spare CR2032 battery in your glove box.

2032's are what I also use. I get about a year out of them.

My typical fob battery life with the CR2032 is 18 months to two years. I actually keep one or two in our refrigerator, so I always have a backup on hand. Oh, and I purchase them at a local hardware store that has lots of foot traffic.
