Coolant Temps in Hot Weather
Off-Lease CPO, didn't have any record of replacement.
See above sentence.
I 'go through' maybe 2 ounces every couple thousand miles...? I'd not call that a "lose" though. More of 'use'.
We took a drive this afternoon and the temp varied between 186 & 192 while driving. With the outside air temp at 84 it varied between 201 and 203 while sitting in a parking lot for 10 mins.....engine running.
I drove my ‘09 XK from home (west of Philadelphia) to Hampton/ Virginia Beach, VA via rt 13, Bay Bridge Tunnel, 285 miles. Temps ranged from 193 to 203. While stuck in a 5 mile traffic jam to get to the HRBT tunnel temps rose to 212-214. As soon as I got through the tunnel and traffic cleared, back to 193-195. No change in fluid levels.
What are you guys using to record the temp? A plug in Bluetooth device into the OBD2 port and downloading a program into the iPhone? Any additional info would be appreciated. Thanks all.

You are my new hero and you absolutely have to tell me how you did this. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I almost had an **gasm when I saw this.
I'm serious, cee jay. I'll drive to Utah and hunt you down to find out how to do this.
Of course, my last trip to Utah was AWESOME, and I've been dying for a reason to go back (ROAD TRIP!!!). And by "hunt you down" I mean I'll meet you at a nice restaurant and buy you dinner and Scotch.
Basically... I HAVE TO KNOW HOW YOU DID THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, one bonus to doing that CAMP2 alternative is that you can do a near-OEM rear camera install at the same time since you're running wires and such. Course, the way the screen is done using a GVIF a person could also do it THAT way, but I prefer the zero-input camera, the way it was supposed to be. Lots of possibilities with a GVIF. Add the TV box and near limitless.
Considering we are running a 50/50 mix of antifreeze along with a pressure cap we won't see any boil over until around 250*F. I had also read somewhere that modern FI electronically controlled engines have temperature sweet shot of around 205* F.
Lots of people scream at me, but I use Evans Waterless Coolant in my streetable P/S Mustang II w/1000 hp and 1000 ft-lb. and have never had a problem with it. Water/coolant or even straight water never got it to NOT overheat. Plus it's fun to take off the radiator cap when the engine is hot and running while people are around. They usually duck for cover when I do it. Kinda funny. Added benefit is that even if it DOES get to 230+ Fahrenheit, it still doesn't 'boil over'.
I've not done it with the XKR, mostly because it's a pain removing 98+% of all the water from the system.

It is a very low profile device that merges nice with the dash
There are many different types and sizes of the ELM 327, so get one of the low profile ones, otherwise you'll be bumping your knee on it.
The ELM connects to your Android device wirelessly so there are no words to worry about. It you use an iPhone you can always go to Wal-Mart and buy one of the prepaid android phones for about $30 and just never sign up for a plan.
Yes it is an OBD2 device like this one :

It generates a wifi network, and I'd connect to it (if I was at home, my phone defaults to the house network, but easy to reselect the car network).
The device shuts down automatically, so no power drain. Don't recall any issues on start-up.
I didn't use Torque Pro, but I see there is an IOS version now. I used both 'Dash Command' and 'OBD Fusion' with no issues.
This is just the sample gauges from OBD Fusion, I don't have the device in the XK anymore, but keep it around for reading fault codes, and it also works fine with my Lexus and the wife's Mazda too:
Bocatrip, this is what you need to plug into your OBD port:

...or something similar. I have about five of those things because lose them, buy another, and then find them 6 months later. They all seem to work about the same. They are just sending the OBD port data to your phone/tablet via bluetooth.
