Looking to replace a faulty cooling fan, and as always, there are multiple paths to take...
1) replace with a brand new Jaguar part - this includes fan, shroud, and module. Cost - $1500
2) replace with a used Jaguar part - this could be from multiple vehicles, as the Johnson Gates part number 500.0761 (9400116) is consistent across a few models. The motor can be swapped onto my shroud and fan. Pigtail is the same length. Cost - $3-400
3) Replace with new "OEM" part. This looks like it even uses the same housing as the Johnson Gates, but you can see it uses smaller gauge wires, and they are in a different order than the Jaguar part, which concerns me. Cost - $300
Had anyone tried the reproduction assembly with success?
I'm torn between the used Jaguar part, which may not last long since it's essentially the same part that failed on my car with 60K miles, and most of these used parts have over 100k miles... Or the reproduction part, which might just be **** quality.
I would pull that aluminum motor cover off and have a look inside, there may be something that's fixable - not sure if the motor is brush less.
Where is the control module located - in the fan?

The fan motor housing is a sealed unit, so breaking it open requires it to be resealed... Something that would likely fail and result in moisture intrusion and a possible short. The control module is built into the fan and takes a PWM signal to control speed. You cannot simply apply 12V to see if it's working.

I went with the reproduction unit for $350, and it fit right up. The supply wire gauges were similar, and it looks to be a decent product. I'll report back if/when it fails.
I have the original fan, and I'm debating what to do with it to see why it doesn't spin anymore.
