In 2010, I asked How Rare Is My 2009 XKR Portfolio Convertible? Recent Bring a Trailer auctions have made me wonder how much it's now worth. Although there are no recent auctions of 2008 or 2009 XKR Portfolio convertibles on BaT, I've been blown away by the values of the comparable sedan (saloon) - the 2009 Jaguar XJ Super V8 Portfolio. I noted that we share the same style Selena wheels, milled aluminum fender (wing) vents, and other details.

As the old saying goes, when the top goes down, the price goes up! Is it true?

I think it's some type of scam/money laundering; dealers colluding to run up the prices of cars; makes no sense, I don't see similar cars getting that kind of money anywhere else

I've promoted the Super V8 as being a really special & important car and glad to see auto community starting to catch on. My VDP was one of the best cars I ever owned and would love to have another one.

You are mistaken. Those sales were real USD prices on Bring a Trailer, a high end automobile auction website. Did you read the details of each auction?

You just accused BaT of rigged auctions and fraud. If you don't have any evidence to support your accusation, you might have a problem.

Top Super V8 Portfolios with low mileage are now selling over 100K. Used to be 40-60K.

 

Does it actually matter what they sell for? What are they actually WORTH? Intrinsic Value versus nutball consumers.

 

What they sell for is what they are worth.

 

Which is why I stated INTRINSIC VALUE. It's a car. An old car. It goes places. That's it.

 

On BaT, the telltale is Sold versus Bid To. There are plenty of cars that show up there just to get a valuation that people could then use as a justification for auctions elsewhere.

 

Surprised at some of the vehement responses; maybe they are, or will be listing, their car(s) on BAT?

 

I posted this on the X350 forum to see what was so special about these cars. I don't understand it.

I think money laundering on BaT claims are always overstated, but I could see a possibility of two or three owners getting together and massively bidding up each others cars in some sham sales and then splitting the BaT fee. Then again if you look at the buyer's purchase history on at least one of them, he definitely has the money.

 

Even your own posted inflated prices went from $25k to $175k.
Someone's doing something sneaky.

 

Let's all coordinate together and take turns posting our XKRs on BaT, bid up to crazy prices, and then the increase in perceived XKR value will be greater than the $5000 fee we all have to pay for "winning" the action

 

I agree this is lunacy, but KBB is straight up AWFUL when it comes to any used car that even has some kind of remote enthusiast value. I love when dealers use it to justify their crappy trade in offer on a car they don't even want and will put right to auction

 

I usually add 15-20% on top, even to get a low-ball from KBB. That was just what first showed up when I searched.
